You know what is funny about all the people who either:wish it was still x decade or wish they were born in a previous decade, is that they never get how much better it now to consume not just modern media but classic media as well. Think about it, when I was a kid if I wanted to get a new game, I had to go to Toys'R'Us (No Gamestop back then) and pick out the best one and usually I was burned. Now, I can watch footage of a game as its being developed . Hell, if I want to play an NES game, all the games I played as a kids and the ones I wanted but was never able to get I can download every single game ever made and play it right on my mobile phone. 5 year old Surtur would have shit himself if he could have done that. All of my favorite shows? Streamed instantly. No longer do I have to watch my shows at a certain time. Want a new game? I can download half price on Steam via my fiberoptic connection in 5-10 minutes. This is not counting how much better things like, you know, medical science have come. This is literally the best time in history to be alive and these faggots don't get it, because "muh nostalgia."
For me at least, it's because motor racing has been a bit shit since about 1998. I could easily live without the fibre optically connected world we call the internet if it meant I could slog a Cosworth powered F1 car around the Nürburgring before they neutered it. Or a V12 Ferrari at the Targa Florio. An air-cooled Porsche to victory at Le Mans. An Escort RS1600 across the centre of Africa. A turbo Brabham-BMW with north of 1300 horsepower on the streets of Monaco. All of these things just are no longer possible due to safety and regulations and it's bloody awful.

I wasn't sure where to put this properly but seeing how the video contains both elements that attract tumblr...

What's weirdest is when these people get 'nostalgic' for a time they weren't even alive to see.

But, anyways, here's some more powerpuff sperging about how the intent of the writer doesn't real:

Cartoons are on par with blowing up a city.

Reboots usually suck but they shouldn't warrant this much outrage or an X Reacts to Y video.

I try to avoid tumblr if possible and I'm not that familiar with "tumblr culture", but they seem to me the opposite of "nostalgiatards"? Yeah, those people "everything used to be better" still are active on this site, but it's quite small community in comparision to "EVERYTHING IS THE BEST NOW, YOU ARE BLINDED BY NOSTALGIA IF YOU DARE LIKE SOMETHING OLDER THAT FROM 10 YEARS AGO", "today cartoons are the best ever cause Steven Universe and Nostalgia Critic said so" teenagers?
Nostalgiatards was more popular some years ago, now newfags becoming a bit more vocal. Two sides of the same coin.
tbh, I don't think today is the "supah best time to be alive". Yes, some things are really wonderful (medicine & technology helping disabled people), but there are also downsides like western society is often really a mess and everything change so fast people heve troubles to understand world around us. But I don't think 90s or 70s or XIX century or any different times were any better. But not really that worse like some people like to pretend, every era have its pros and cons. Some problems disappear, new are born.

When the animation age ghetto started disappearing in the late 80s early 90s. Basically, for the longest time (60s-80s), cartoons were exclusively for children, but in the 90s, shows like ren and stimpy and batman came out, showing that cartoons can be adult again.
Cartoons were never only for children, people just assumed they were thanks to the dark age of animation, and the fact that it is expensive to make an animation, and would need as broad a demographic appeal as possible.
Back on topic, since I could go on about this forever, the reason theyre so attached to these shows is because they were good, and nostalgia makes them seem even better. We didnt see this before because 80s shows were not good. We will probably see a resurgence of the Steven Universe fandom in about 20 years, and may god help us when it happens.

Tumblr also has this thing that they don't really enjoy media that was made before they were born. I never see them obsess over old movies or stuff from the 80s/70s and before (besides Star Wars, and that's only because it's mainstream to like Star Wars).

We will probably see a resurgence of the Steven Universe fandom in about 20 years, and may god help us when it happens.

Do you see tumblrinas in their 40s sperging over Steven Universe? What, are they gonna complain that their husbands oppress them or that their male child has "Male privilege"?

I'm cartoons/animation fan and start to miss those times when cartoons were considered "silly things for children", a lot less crazy fans, but quiet niche.

We didnt see this before because 80s shows were not good.
Really?

You remind me that tumblr and a lot of people love to hate on (American) 80s cartoons and often use them as "strawman" to prove that new ponies or Steven Universe are the best things ever and use the term 30 minute toy commercials" way too often. They are really not terrible.

Pre-1935 Betty Boop was meant for adults too... it's surprisingly provocative for the time. A lot of people, especially a few decades ago thought that all cartoons were for children... that's why Beavis and Butt-Head had its balls chopped off because trailer trash would let their children watch it unattended, and then try to sue when their children would imitate things they saw on the show (dropping a bowling ball off a bridge, burning down a comedy club, sniffing stove gas to get high, etc.) There was an episode of Beavis and Butt-Head where they get struck by lightning imitating Benjamin Franklin on an educational show, it's a great social commentary on the controversy surrounding the show at the time.

But there's still a difference between watching cartoons meant for adults, and 20/30-somethings who are obsessed with Pokémon, Disney movies, etc. It's what you call "Peter Pan syndrome."

It's easy to enjoy something not meant for you to be the target demographic, and not be a complete autist about it.

But I suppose it's difficult when a generation is raised by TV and Internet and have literally known no other thing other than these fictional characters and worlds.

That's the only reason I can see these people haven't such a rabid obsession with their nostalgia. It's all they have and all they ever will have because the real world is dark and scary for them.

Amen

I see two other reasons:
- how fast trends, technology and world in general is changing nowadays. Popular things appear and disappear in the internet within a year. Because that people start to feel nostalgic about something only 10-15 years old, because it seems it's "gone" now. Superhero movies used to be a niche, now it's the most popular trend. Nerd glasses used to be laught at and now they are ironically trendy. Having many TV channels used to beymbol of somebody status, now having TV is seen as something stupid, because Netflix and if you don't watch serials "on demand" you are considered brainwashed and without control of your life (ok, this is extreme exapmle XD). It's crazy, something goes from uncool to cool and uncool again so fast.
- how people are suppose to like something "only from their decade". This both produce people who hate on new things and current generation and things made before they were born
