While everyone is freaking out about Last of Us 2, let's talk about an actually good game brought to us by Sony.

Yes, you heard that right, I think The Order: 1886 is good, maybe even great or at least close to great.

Why were gamers so hard on this game? The shooting in the game has good weight and the crazy alternate history weaponry is fun to use, yes there could be more of it, but what's there is perfectly good.

And the length, is it possible to beat the game in one sitting? Maybe, but only if you rush through it, which isn't how the game is meant to be played at all, it took me 4 nights to beat, which isn't long, but I'd say that's a decent enough length (Uncharted 1 for example only takes me 3 nights to beat)

Yes, the game could be a little deeper and meatier, but there's nothing wrong with what's there, what's really amazing about the game is the world that it's set in, the art direction is some of the most impressive ever seen in a game and the story and characters are really interesting, I don't understand why gamers couldn't forgive the game's flaws, appreciate what was there and see the future for potential entries, sometimes a series needs a dry run before things can really get good, same deal with Uncharted and I would say The Order: 1886 is waaaaaay better than the original Uncharted, so what gives?

I know the reason why gamers had their knives out for the game though and that's because of the graphics, there's an extreme taboo in gaming culture over graphics, a game is not supposed to tout graphics as one of it's key selling points and thus any game that does instantly creates a "burn the heretic" mentality among cynical gamers.

Graphics won't save a terrible game but they aren't chopped liver either, games are a visual medium, graphics matter.

There was a moment in The Order in order that actually tricked my brain for a split second into thinking I was looking at real footage, that's never happened with a game before, I don't know about you guys but I think that's cool.

Thankfully there's a rumor that the game is getting a sequel so hopefully cynicism hasn't sunk a potentially cool series. http://www.pushsquare.com/news/2020...ll_make_a_triumphant_comeback_with_ps5_sequel

The Order: 1886 can be bought cheaply today so I highly recommend everyone ignore the bad buzz and try the game for yourself.

Wasn't it presented to be something huge at E3 and it turned out to be like 6 hours long and half of that time was cutscenes?

Here you go. Just replace -> [PUBLISHER] [GAME] [RIVAL GAME]

That 2 hour 30fps FPS movie that story was about Vampires controlling werewolves to help in world domination?

It wasn't a bad game, however it certainly didn't live up to it's potential.

Victorian Era Knights of the Round Table (no really, The Titicular order was "The Order of the Round Table.") serving as a sort of Men in Black fighting vampires and werewolves, with Nicolas Tesla as their weapons creator has massive potential for coolness. Instead we just sort of got a passable shooter with a Meh story line. Give a sequel to a good studio and it would probably be really really good.

Oh deary me, have I wound up creating a new copypasta?

I feel quite proud.

To be clear, I absolutely wish the gameplay was deeper, that's a valid criticism, I just think that what's there is good and worth playing.

The complaints about the game's length on the other hand are a misconception, it's not a long game, no, but I was perfectly satisfied with the length, if you play the game as you normally should as in stop and soak up the atmosphere rather than barrel through, it's fine, it's roughly the same length as Uncharted 2 and I don't remember people sperging out about that game being too short.

The game is also clearly meant to be replayed many times just to enjoy the whole experience again, yes, like a movie, which I know is such a dirty word for most gamers but I think that's bullshit, it's perfectly fine for some games to go for a cinematic experience, too many gamers have too narrow a view of what a game "should" be.

There's just a fundamental disconnect I have with most gamers and that's I like to look at the glass half full, I believe that a game can still be good despite a few flaws, many gamers on the other expect absolute perfection and claim a game is garbage if it isn't perfect, that's such bullshit.

The game from a visual standpoint is literally one of the most impressive games ever made and can be bought for way less than 60$ now, there's no reason for anyone who owns a PS4 not to give the game a go, it won't be the deepest experience you've had but it's fun and why isn't that good enough?

But whatever flaws the game may have had, there's still clearly loads of potential and gamers should have been more forgiving to help ensure that a sequel could live up to that potential.
