While often Chris wishes he was never discovered in late 2007, I have decided to compile a list of the more positive benefits as the result of Chris's discovery:

  • He managed to capitalise on his fame
    • Chris has managed to capitalise on his fame and earn potentially $3,000+ from sales as the result of his discovery. This would have been much more difficult to do if he hadn't have been discovered.
  • He has gained life experience
    • Whilst I am sure that many here will say otherwise, Chris has gained life experience in ways he could not have imagined. On 12 June 2009, Chris visited a local bar/restaurant, where he encountered a pair of fans and was also the first time he had ever drunk alcohol.
  • Chris has possibly realised the need for change
    • When Chris was first discovered in 2007, he was a lot different than he is today. Whilst many might not see this as a good change, Chris's change in fashion sense and style has largely been the result of his discovery. With fans pointing out his poor dress sense, Chris made an effort to change this, regardless of whether it was for better or worst.
  • Chris has made an effort to stay off the internet and interact IRL
    • Despite the recent video that Chris produced, Chris has largely realised that staying away from the internet was probably a better idea than if he stayed on it. Because of this, Chris has made attempts to interact more IRL, potentially gaining a sweetheart.
  • Chris is now working for his money
    • As the result of his eBay sales, Chris is now working round the clock to help ship items for buyer's. It is possibly the first time Chris has worked for his money in a decade - had his discovery not happened, it is probable this wouldn't be either.

Trolling is stupid.

It's nice to think that all of this has somehow been "for his own good," but honestly?

He managed to capitalise on his fame
I don't think $3,000 in sales can serve as reparations for the years of bullying he's endured. It's not actually all that much money, and it's largely irrelevant because he's already in debt again. Selling a few medallions and drawings has not fixed his life.

He has gained life experience
Referring to what he's been through as "life experience" is unreasonably generous. To me, life experience is standing on your own as an adult and having the opportunity to see the world as it really is. Chris has not done that at all. Everything related to his "discovery" has been distorted and manipulative. After going through one swindle to the next, he no longer has any sense of which way is up. You could argue that he was already delusional and paranoid prior to the trolling, but the so-called "life experience" he has been granted from trolls has certainly not helped that.

Chris has possibly realised the need for change
Maybe so, but you're assuming that change in of itself is a good thing, or at least an indicator of good things. His gender issues seem to be a reaction to his poor mental health, not a sign of growth or coming to peace with his natural state, and I'd argue that the way he has been treated by people on the internet is a big factor in his poor mental health.

Chris has made an effort to stay off the internet and interact IRL
If trolls hadn't made his life on the internet so toxic this point wouldn't have marked any sort of necessary improvement. We already know quite well that Chris is just as broken socially in the real world, and if anything the internet could have provided a safer place for him to express himself and connect with others who appreciate his unique view of the world. That did not happen, though.

Chris is now working for his money
So? I've argued before that Chris is exactly the sort of person who should be receiving social security monies. "muh work ethic" is a boring, tired argument that doesn't hold up to scrutiny unless you're some sort of heartless neocon jerk. To briefly recap my views: Chris is very clearly suffering from a biological disfunction that prevents him from being socially compatible with the workforce. In a perfect world, perhaps he could have been counseled and trained to fill some sort of productive role, but the reality of his upbringing was way too shitty for that to work out. Now he gets money from the government, and that’s fine.

At the moment he’s supplementing his welfare by working hard on making some gimmicky trinkets for his troll fanbase, and that’s nice for him, but it’s not going to sustain him in the long run. He’s going to remain reliant on his SSI checks.
