Joss Whedon is a huge pussy and a hypocrite, and I'm glad his ass is gone from Marvel. Like I said before, The Punisher's superpower is that he never kills an innocent when he's shooting. Of course it isn't realistic. It isn't meant to be. Like many comic characters, he's an idealized version. He's also never wrong about someone being evil, like a human detector of the soul. It is fucking idealized. Its fiction. Just like the X-Men. He's pinned as more realistic, and he is, but he still has superhuman qualities, just very subtle ones.

There's a story from the 1990s, 'What if The Punisher Killed The Marvel Universe'. Instead of Frank's family getting killed by gangsters, they die in a cross-fire between the X-Men and Magneto. Garth Ennis explored this issue in 'The Boys' (Garth Ennis fucking HATES HATES HATES Superheroes and the views of people like Whedon). Look, you've got eye-lasers, a woman who can create storms and dozens of other people with deadly powers. Oh, and as for the X-Men never killing anybody? That's fucking wrong as shit:

This was a kid whose mutant power was to basically just insta kill anyone in his vicinity. Only Wolverine could withstand it. So they send Wolverine in to find the poor bastard and he kills him. Guess what, he killed a kid. On the orders of Xavier and the other X-Men. All the X-Men are complicit now in child murder. Oh, not looking so bright and shiny is it now, you stupid cunt?

(Tbf, Ennis alludes to Frank killing Child Soldiers, but he made the solid point that if a kid is wearing a necklace of human ears, he ain't a kid no more). Also, the Punisher doesn't kill robbers (unless they're killing people) or burglars or common, non-violent criminals. His whole thing is killing very terrible, evil people. Like someone mentioned, read 'Up is Down, Black is White'. In that book, you have robbers basically saying he never goes after them. And he doesn't. He's not going to shoot you over a parking ticket or robbing a house. He's going to kill you if you hurt or kill other people.

So that's just one example of the X-Men killing a poor child for simply existing. Also, if you want to see what a real superhero battle would be, just watch 'Man of Steel'. Yes, that is what one would be like, even in Marvel. Especially with the Hulk and Thor and other high-power heroes. You had hundreds of thousands of people die because you can throw shit through buildings and punch through concrete. Its an idiotic argument to make. They're all fictional characters. They all have abilities that people don't. I shouldn't be surprised, subtlety and nuance are not fucking Joss Whedon's strengths.

Even I could see that's not in-character for The Punisher. But with Joss Whedon writing, The Punisher was either going to turn evil and be beat up by a little girl or turn into a quipping machine. Who let Joss Whedon write The Punisher, anyway? I've always considered that letting Whedon write anything is basically a crime against humanity, but I'd think even his adoring fans could see that particular combo would not end well.

The Punisher has a very long love-hate relationship history between writers. Before Ennis did Max, he did a series called Marvel Knights with 'The Punisher', which took place in the Marvel universe. In one issue, he blows Wolverine's face and balls off, then crushes him with a steamroller when he tries to kill Frank.

A later series starring Wolverine and The Punisher, the writer had all these body-building mags and shit fall out of the Punisher's bag, implying he was gay. (Yes, the writer actually did a 'LOL THE PUNISHER IS A FAG' joke in a book. Different times). It was an eye-rolling little jab.

But on occasion you do get writers who have absolutely no idea how to handle him, like Joss. He doesn't fit in Whedon's style at all and shouldn't ever touch him.

God, I fucking love The Boys. I should re-read it.
