Here at the forums, musical tastes run the gambit from Classical to what's hot today. I was wondering if there were any ska fans here and what your favorite bands are. What concerts have you been to and how was it? Recommendations on new music and bands are always appreciated!

My faves include: Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, Five Iron Frenzy, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Suburban Rhythm, Streetlight Manifesto, The Arrogant Sons Of Bitches and Goldfinger.

Back in '07, I went and saw Reel Big Fish with Army of Freshmen and was blown away. They were supposed to play at a larger venue, but some shit went down at a Fall Out Boy concert the night prior, so it was moved to a more intimate setting. It was great hearing the bands talk shit about Fall Out Boy all night long, making it a memorable experience.

I used to listen to a ton of ska, not so much any more though. The very first gig I ever wsent to was Less Than Jake, about twelve years ago now...
Going to see them with Reel Big Fish in Feb too! Very much looking forward to some sweet, sweet nostalgia...

Streetlight manifesto are also absolutely incredible. I saw them play at Groezrock last year, and they had everybody dancing.

Wherabouts do you live that bands don't get out your way often?

A review would be much appreciated.

I live in the desert sands of New Mexico. Bands like that usually make stops in Phoenix, Denver or Dallas. A bit of a drive for me for a concert, but it's not like I haven't done it before. It's a bit of a rarity when we get headliners that are actually worth seeing in Albuquerque or Las Cruces, both of which are just a few hours away.

To be honest, I really haven't heard a lot of first wave ska. The vast majority of my collection is third wave/ska punk. Have you any other recommendations that could encapsulate the beginnings of ska? I'm always down to listen to pioneers of a genre.

I saw FIF mentioned here and they are the absolute worst band ever. A someone can be forgiven for liking them through their teen years, but they truly were/are a cancer.

Discovered Reel Big Fish a while back. Really liking what I've heard so far (although I've not heard a lot) and I keep coming back to those tracks.
Pretty much all of it's from the album "Cheer Up!".
