The "Release The Snyder Cut" campaign looks to have been a success as it is being reported that the Zack Snyder version of Justice League will be released on WarnerMedia's new HBO Max streaming service that launches next May.

While an official announcement hasn't been made, numerous sources are offering that "Release The Snyder Cut" is happening on HBO Max.

Further evidence it's happening also comes from the fact that the Justice League actors, including Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher and Joe Manganiello, in addition to Zack Snyder and members of his production crew, promoted #ReleaseTheSnyderCut on social media, which appears to have been a planned marketing campaign in conjunction with the two year anniversary of the theatrical release of Justice League.

New images have been released from the Snyder cut of Justice League, with Jason Momoa also confirming that Zack Snyder finished his version of the film.

Zack Snyder's Justice League coming to HBO Max

The Lords of the Long Box YouTube channel also offers that "Release The Snyder Cut" will get an HBO Max release.

Redditors are also pointing out that promos for HBO Max are now using scenes from the Snyder Cut (that do exist in the Whedon version as well).

A Redditor also points out that Warner Bros. has just started following Zack Snyder on Twitter.

Kevin Smith also included HBO Max when he tweeted support for "Release the Snyder Cut."

HBO Max is also said to have "liked" a tweet about "Release the Snyder Cut."

Fans have been campaigning for the Snyder Cut of Justice League since the theatrical release turned out to be a disappointment. Zack was unable to finish his version of the movie due to a family tragedy that saw Joss Whedon come on board and basically redo the entire movie. It's reported Whedon's script had 80 new pages, which would mean around 80 minutes of new footage that was different from the Snyder version (typically one page of a script equals one minute of footage).

HBO Max launches in May priced at $14.99 a month.

It can't be any worse than the Whedon abomination.

I'm surprised DC didn't clean murder the 'old' movieverse quite frankly. I saw a trailer for Birds of Prey and I was like "oh god they're still trying".

Oh yeah on topic. Snyder's bombastic and doesn't understand things, he should literally just be kept around as a discount Michael Bay if at all.

I'm kind of excited. I remember how much I hated BvS in theaters and when I watched the Ultimate Edition or whatever I was surprised by how much better it was. Not incredible, but definitely now in the realm of "decent". At the very least, if it sucks, pretty much everyone gets vindication that Justice League was doomed from the start.

Its worth mentioning that its Snyder's Cut, not Snyder's Original Vision. Snyder still got curbstomped by Warner Bros. execs when he wanted to make it two films and have them be about Darkseid. Still, I'm eager to see the Snyder cut because 1) Snyder is a much better writer and filmmaker than Joss Whedon, and 2) at least it'll be tonally consistent with BvS and Man of Steel. Also, this is the last time we'll get to see Cavill and Affleck in these roles, so I'd like to see them get the sendoff they deserve.

It's clear that they don't know what they're doing. Now with Joker being a monster hit maybe they're going to go in that direction and do like a mini DCU focusing on one or two big franchises that interconnect?

Supposedly Snyder killed off Lois Lane and introduced the Martian Manhunter.

It sucks too, because unlike Affleck, Cavill stated just recently that he still really wants to come back. And I think there was real potential in his Superman. At the very least, he respected the character and source material.

I would love to see Henry Cavill be Superman again and display more of good-natured personality fans wanted to the DCEU version to show.

I feel bad for Cavill. He's so enthusiastic about playing these popular characters that he seems to genuinely respect but he ends up getting the short end of the stick, between the DCEU's floundering reputation and the growing likelihood of the Witcher show being shit.

Man of Steel and Batman v Superman sucked a bag of dicks, and I don't like Zack Snyder as a filmmaker. Plain and simple. And I think that Justice League is beyond salvaging.

However, why not release this movie as originally intended? I may not be a fan of the DCEU, and I may be glad that WB seems to have put that entire cinematic universe to rest, but I do realize that there are fans still out there. If they like this stuff, then more power to them.

I'm happy for the fans who may very well get what they've been asking for these past two years.

Disney did not set out to create a massive extended universe when they released Iron Man. It just sort of happened. The reason the DC movies have usually sucked is because they have not focused enough on building the characters. Compare Superman to Captain America. Both were origin movies, but in the case of Captain America we got a compelling story with an open ended "but wait there is more!" Tacked on at the end. Man of Steel by contrast was a convoluted mess that ends on...how does it end? Yeah.

The lesson WB needs to take from Joker is they need to build charachters. And instead of going the superhero route, something we have already seen with Marvel, they should go the Villain route instead. Instead of justice league, let's see the Legion of Doom. And instead of some campy bullcrap lets actually give them a compelling study. One man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter, right? DC villains were always more compelling then Marvel villains. They had motivations beyond general mayhem.

DCEU seemed to be finding it's groove with Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Shazam (I didn't dig it but critics loved it) but with Birds of Prey having fallen victim to Margot Robbie's ego and test screenings of Wonder Woman 84 reportedly not going so well looks like it was short-lived.

Thankfully the cinematic universe craze lasted about as long as Crossbones did in captain America: Civil War. MCU worked cause they had a solid plan in place while DCEU was just throwing shit out to play catch up. If Wonder Woman 84 fails they should ditch the whole thing and do a series of movies based on the Injustice storyline. Plenty of source material to mine from and to the average viewer it would be something new at least.

It says a lot about the current state of capeshit that just a few days ago I was arguing with a guy at work about whether this movie actually existed or not.

It says even more that we came to the conclusion that we were simply misremembering Wonder Woman, and that a Justice League film never actually came out.

That being the case, I don't think a few choice edits are going to fix this thing's problems.

It should be pointed out that as of Iron Man's release, Marvel had yet to be bought by Disney. Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk were desperate moves by Paramount to right their sinking ship on the back of cheap ass film rights they bought from Marvel for pennies when their stock in the early 2000's was in the gutter. I think it worked less because people were excited for more as much as they were excited for something new. Nobody actually believed The Avengers would come to fruition until the post-credits scene of Captain America and the realization hit.

Up to that point practically nobody tried to even hint at cross-film universes. Now adapted cross-overs have become as ubiquitous as westerns were in the 50's. People still like seeing brands they're comfortable with, but the overwhelming volume of half-assed and irrelevant side-stories have worn off the current formula's welcome. Less people are interested in waiting a decade across 20 plus films to see their cartoon story come to a finale. They want, as has been the case for most of cinema's history, a single sequence they can follow and leave satisfied with. Whether the satisfaction comes from thoughtful narrative or exciting action the result is the same: the current trend of long franchises is dead. HBO is flailing for a replacement to Game of Thrones, Universal dumped a load of money into disastrously unprofitable Harry Potter and Godzilla re-launches, and Warner has failed to get their cinematic universe anywhere but the Walmart bargain bin. Joker succeeded because it was a concise authored film that doesn't speak down to the viewer and doesn't expect them to dump hundreds of dollars into subsequent films to get the full experience.

With that said I can almost 100% assure you any plans for further universes have been dropped like rocks in favour of green-lighting smaller, cheaper scripts. Joker is on track to beat the last three Star Wars films combined for fucks sake, and that's with a hard-R and a big fuck you to China. DC has proven that you shouldn't (and don't need to) rely on a dozen other films succeeding and hundreds of millions of dollars worth of ad campaigns to prop up potential flops to make a single film work. At least for now. In a decade or two when the character studies and meager productions wear out we'll go back to war with East Asia; back to the grinder of studio-manufactured franchises until the cycle wears out again.
