They also apparently fucked with the plot, since Chani shows up in Part One.
Lemme guess: Chani's going to turn out to be the Kwisach Haderach and be more awesomer than Paul, who's going to end up dead or turned into a worm or something. I also wonder how they're going to handle the whole concubine thing since one of the themes of the Dune books is that the whole royal marriage system is fucked because women are forced to marry men they don't love. The original Dune universe was pretty sexist in how it treated women, and even the Bene Gessrit had to pursue traditional female gender roles to get anywhere (instead of just using their powers to overpower men Amazon style and get what they want.) Can't have that kind of thing in the current year where every woman has to be a strong warrior who don't need no man.

I just know they show Paul and Chani going around Arrakeen together in the previews.

Do wonder if this flops at the box office but does very strong on HBO MAX if that means Dune Part 2 could still happen
I was under the impression they filmed the whole thing and are just releasing it in two parts.

What the fuck they pulled a Hobbit and split the book up into multiple parts? I'm pirating this garbage.
It's kind of an apples-to-oranges comparison, I think. The Hobbit is a 100-page children's book that got stretched paper-thin and stuffed full of unnecessary and noncanonical bullshit to milk it for an entire trilogy. Dune is a good 500+ page doorstop of a novel, and with how much is stuffed into it, it would likely benefit from a two-movie adaptation (although at this point I think a TV series would probably have been a better idea overall). David Lynch's Dune rushed through the plot to the point that they had to distribute cheat sheets to audiences so they could understand what the fuck they were watching, although that was partly due to executive meddling that Lynch did not approve of. Considering that the extended version of that movie is close to four hours long, I think a two-movie split for this adaptation makes sense.

That is, assuming we even get a part 2.

Yeah Dune worked pretty good as the three part miniseries.
But waiting to film the second part is just asking for trouble as one of your leads dies from Hollywooding.

I'm sorry everyone I love the 1984 movie. It is the one and only Dune movie for me. It was nostalgic to me and one of me and my dad's favorite movies.
I'll be honest i hate that they are rebooting this movie so is my dad.

But I'm torn between wanting the movie bombed because it is a remake (yes, I'm aware Dune was a book before a movie but still) of a beloved movie I enjoy and I'm tired of Hollywood fucking with my childhood memories. But I know people are excited for the movie on here and I don't want to come off as a asshole.

I'm more in line with not going to watch the movie. But others can as they please. Almost like how James Rolf was with 2016 Ghostbusters.

I like the original movie because I like Lynch, but its pretty fucking rough. At least if you enjoy the books there is the extended frankenstein cut of the movie with deleted scenes, stuff from the show added in, some rearranging and trimming.

The original Dune movie was not a good movie, but it was absolutely different from almost every other sci-fi movie. That distinctive voice and look still commands attention.

I didn't say the movie was perfect. I saddly haven't read the books. I probably should by how everyone talks about them. I just worry people will froget the old one or will claim the new movie is far superior. You already have people like most fans of the 2000s Battlestar Galactica sitting on the old one. I grew up on a lot of sci fy stuff with my dad.

I'm just hoping The Last star fighter never gets remade.

I just hate when Hollywood reboots stuff I love Magnum P.I and Walker Texas Ranger for instance

I love Lynch's Dune, too. It's objectively a horrifyingly terrible film but man, it's one wild trip you can't forget.

There's a SyFy miniseries from 2000 which did everything right where Lynch's Dune was wrong and did everything wrong where Lynch's Dune was right. Ironically, despite being 4 hours long I felt like I got whiplash from the miniseries because of how fast the plot moved.

My main concern with Dune 2021 is the woke factor, which infected every other Sci-Fi franchise I can think of.

There’s rumors that Dune will premiere at the Venice Film Festival in early September.

Venice premiered Villeneuve’s Arrival a while back and is getting to be the big premiere event for fall shit as in the past few years they premiered Joker (won top prize), The Shape of Water, and A Star is Born. Hopefully this is a promising sign for Dune.

Dune release gets pushed back 3 weeks to Oct 22.

Allows it some breathing room from Venom, Bond, and The Eternals.

Hopefully this adaptation is good. The original isn't that great but I still like it for nostalgia purposes. I read all of the books last year while waiting for this movie. I had only read up to God Emperor back when i was a teen.

From the casting alone, I will refuse to watch it becasue..not one of the actors look even remotley as to how they are described (in detail) in the book. And the trailer does give the impression the "actors" are "acting" at each other not with.

[Edit] The 1984 Lynch film has at least nearly flawless casting.. except Sting.. and Lynch did not feel the need to get any "woke" points by changing the gender of Liet Kynes.
