The Spice Must Flow! Villeneuve’s Dune -

I would really like for this to be good and be a success, but having just finished reading the book, I know that Dune is incredibly hard to adapt and not exactly normie-friendly, so I’m going to try not to get my hopes too high. Knowing how dense the book is, I actually think it might have been a good idea to make the adaptation a two-parter, but we can’t know for sure until the movie releases.

I will say that Denis Villeneuve is a very talented director and I think that he was one of the best, if not the best possible choice to helm this movie, so that’s definitely a point in its favor.

Also, does anyone else think that this might end up getting delayed, seeing as there was no release date listed at the end of the trailer.

I think they needed to take advantage of streaming for this. I think givin the circumstances, Wuflu could very well be the kiss of death for this...

I'm cautiously optimistic.

Children of Dune mini series was ball lickingly awesome and got me hungering for more good Dune content.

So here's to hoping they don't royally fuck it up.

Let's be honest, it a hellishly hard story/world to make into a movie. What with so much inner monologues and so much world building needed before anything can be developed plot wise then your in danger of losing the smooth brains if there's not enough boobs or explosions to keep their small minds engaged.

Petty, but my biggest problem with Baron Harkonnen is that he's not nearly fat enough. Dude is so fucking fat he has special antigravity devices to hoist his massive ass around.

Jodorosky actually wanted Orson Welles to shave his body and portray Baron Harkonnen and the madman actually agreed. This is what Orson Welles and his costume from the movie looked like:

That's a sight for the ages. I'd cut off a finger for the chance to go to the timeline where this movie was made...

In an era where long-form narratives are doing quite well in a TV format, I feel like the best way to approach Dune would be with a TV series. It would let you get all the worldbuilding in without overloading your audience, give the narrative time to breathe, and allow for the inclusion of all the various plotlines without needing to cut things back. Plus there are six books' worth of content to adapt (or more, depending on your opinions on the Brian/Kevin books, but that's a whole other can of sandworms), which is more than Game of Thrones ever got. And with the budgets some TV series have these days, a Dune series could certainly look very good.

Still, I'll take what I can get, even if it's only Dune that gets a decent film adaptation. But man, what I wouldn't give to see the really weird shit from the later books on the big screen. Duncan's sexfights, Miles Teg's superspeed, everything to do with the God Emperor...that'd be some quality cinema.

Watch the Sci-Fi channels mini series, really top notch stuff even if it's got a limited special effects budget.

The actors are all well chosen and Susan Sarandon chews up the scenery quite nicely IMHO. Channeling her inner Shatner, that one.

I personally have a weakness for the gingers so I loved the actress who played Alia. Much awesomeness, many stiffies!

Hmmm, you need not mention that last bit to my wife.... redheads do have a temper.
