I have this suspician that Spoony somehow knows, that if he actually does produce a new video, after putting a decent amount of effort into it. His remining paypigs will realise that he's not capable of producing decent content anymore. That what was edgey in 2012 is just bedroom vlogger content now.

If he doesn't produce any new videos, then he's an ex top YouTuber. If he does, then he's just another middle edged loser trying to make it on YouTube with stone cold takes on pop culture.

He wont produce. Landscape has changed, you cant just say 666 fucks per video, other "mature" stuff, or you are demonetized. Also, angry reviews can be pulled of by AVGN and to some extend, people like Nostalgia Critic. Even they toned down swearing to the point of barely existing.

Ex-Top Youtuber? With 109k subs, he could be ex first generation, relic of the youtube past and someone who imploded in the process. He is the one to blame, because of the Gutter he is in right now, not Scarlet, Allison, Hope, Doug or April. He is responsible, and he very well knows it!

Other than that, paypigs are guilty as well, because they are feeding Spoonys laziness and ego, making him unproductive and "duhprushun".

Solely from ad revenue? Depends on what content you do and where your viewerbase is from (because that influences CPM) and how often you upload, so it's hard to give a concrete answer.

But Spoony (and plenty of other niche creators these days) monetise largely through Patreon so it's less about raw viewers and more about what % of them become patrons.

I can see stuff like Nordvpn actually offering some value, but I remember one (maybe tunnelbear?) too which got hacked and they were huuuggeeee on youtube and disappeared overnight. Even marzgurl of all people shilled for manscaped at the end lol.

Apparently Sponsorships give out $15-20 CPM so it makes sense for creators to do them even if they hate it. I can't blame you on being annoyed by youtube ads. They're very excessive, with there being 2 ads before a video instead of 1 because of Matt Watson going after youtube's advertisers.

Ad reads pay out a lot and are highly cost-effective for companies.

Spoony could've been doing them and making a mint if he hadn't given up. Even miserable washouts like Lupa and the walking husk that is Doug Walker pull sponsors.

I can't imagine spoony ever getting sponsors again, not after his tweets and general unstable behavior going back almost to his start on Youtube. I used to like Walker somewhat, then he brought in extras and 'quit' doing NC to do that 'remake movies' thing. Whoever's idea that was should be shunned. Was probably Doug himself though. I dropped off watching everything from those guys except for spoony out of fun, then about 2 years ago that pretty much stopped being fun. Like someone else said, he and the warthog are really more sad than anything. I still watch though for some reason.

Try using SponsorBlock for in-video ads. It automatically skips them. The catch is the timers are user-made, so you usually only see it in videos from big channels.

I think Youtube Vanced (Android app) also has this feature built in their app.

I've mentioned before about this exact same problem. Spoonys way of reviewing is archaic, its long past its expiration date, in both a comedic and technical sense. He's simply been replaced by better more technically astute reviewers. To your point the man up to his end used the TGWTG style of reviewing, a style of reviewing that was out of date in 2012.
And whats more he doesnt have that nostalgia factor someone like James Rolfe does where people only have good memories of him, Spoony has essentially never treated his fans well and has left a sour taste in pretty much all of his ex fans mouth. (Thats also not counting the fact that James even back then had technical and editing knowledge to make those videos seem easily on par with ones made today.) The man would literally have to start from the bottom, and not only that but, evolve beyond what he was. Sadly I dont think even on his brightest days, does that Spoony exist anymore.

Difference between Noah and James is passion. James had a burnout with AVGN, didn't retire the character, just made episode less frequently. Also he has a wife and two daughters. He didn't allow drama in his professional life, and respected his audience. He made some side project, tried different thing, and "borrow" Red Letter Media formula for his own movie show.

Noah was passional for a while, then started making longer and longer pauses, was always bitching how his audience is spoiled and just wanted some free entertoyment. He made two of his girlfriends publicly leave him, that he only used for more drama, drunken v-logs, and whiney tweets. He borrowed angry reviewer formula, made some stuff in the day, and stopped doing once he realized that his audience has showered him with donation, and refuses any help, even as his health is deteriorating and his donation sum is getting smaller and smaller.

Edit: Also one small difference between Spoony and AVGN, I know its not important and significant, but James made an AVGN Movie.

I wonder if James even remembers Spoony. They were in a couple of projects together, co-hosted several panels over the years and Spoony once wrote in the about page on his site that James was "responsive" to him though they "weren't in contact much".



This like the rest of that page was last updated in the early 2010s, as you can tell from Spoony's claim that he's "working pretty much all the time".

I haven't watches James in, fuck, half a decade or more. I just got sick of that whole angry shtick they all do. Good to see he's still going though, I found him to be the least offensive of all the angry reviewers. The again they all ripped him off to begin with.

AVGN has felt pretty tired for quite a long time now. But the character has kinda grown to become a household youtube thing. He has been around so long now that he is almost nostalgic. And James played his cards almost 100% right. And most important thing of them all...James never became a snotty nosed snob thinking he was better than anyone else. Very humble. THis has been said a thousand times before but its worth repeating in comparison with spoony.

James is one of the first TRUE youtube celebreties. One that held over time (even though his schtick is old)
