More than half of the population does not consider themselves belgian until a football match. Dividing the country will give more of an excuse to the EU to transform Brussels on the actual capital.

Belgium is like Poland; despite initial appearances, they both serve a useful purpose. They are very convenient for taking a road trip from Paris to Berlin, or Berlin to Moscow, or even Paris to Moscow with a couple (hundred thousand) of your best friends.
