The US/World Made Anime Thread: For all things considered (from comics, art, video games, and why out west, it's only a perpetual blip and mostly miss - IT'S JUST LIKE MY JAPANESE ANIMES..... not

Discuss.

So, I'm sure plenty of you/close crowd of mine are well aware of this. There are threads up like about RWBY, Abandoned Internet Fiction, and even Tumblr/DeviantArt subject threads, and admittedly, even Chris Chan himself borderline falls in line with this topic. Plus, I sperg on and on about how the States doesn't have its own grassroots communes and industries like Japan regarding the massive inspirational wave of anime and video games that swept out west. So this place will help keep my autistic ass focused and away from derailing the everloving shit out of every other anime topic related thread out there (hopefully).

To begin, this topic is about anime stuff made outside of Japan, and its ever far reaching presence throughout the globe. Such impact of captivation, inspiration, and even on its assend of things, autism and obsession has swept all throughout the world, and nevertheless, with such influence, it also awakens motivation. This has led to many aspirants to try and make their own anime stuff, be it by art, literature, and other means, and it is something I would like to discuss and keep track of. Hey, everyone needs a hobby.

I'll start with my ever prevalent topic of "why the fuck has the west not been able to capture the same magic/pulse that anime and manga has since 2000." This is a constant question on my mind, because you'd think that with like sushi and karate and shit that it would be easy to sublimate elsewhere, and that like jazz and UK Rock/punk that it would also spread out and branch into its own unique flavor. But no, it's pretty rare, and despite shows like Avatar and Teen Titans getting massive hype, a vocal part of the community says that something is missing from them. Even with Netflix getting into the picture, the notes are still not hit.

As for everything else, go wild, it's free for all. Post up good to embarrassingly cringe fun bad manga webcomics and artwork. Bring up old stuff that in the back of our heads, we've all forgotten about. Link up and talk about games like Cosmic Star Heroine, Oni, and other indie games that want to capture this feel. "Bring your imaginations! And most of all, have fun". (fucking A breadtube, you don't have that clip from the 1994 Fantastic Four movie....)

Please take your meds before posting. Are you asking "Why hasn't the west been able to recreate the feel of anime?" If so art represents the culture it was made in and thus any western attempt to recreate anime won't hit the same cultural beats as Japanese Anime. Its like asking why an Atheist can't recreate the Sistine Chapel they can't because they don't truly understand it.

I can't speak for Avatar since I've never watched it, but regarding Teen Titans, I don't recall ever having an issue with it. I remember the characters being written well, and the over-all episodes being entertaining to some extent, but that's about it. It wasn't amazing, but it wasn't boring cringe either.

Meh, i still prefer Macross.
And those strange crossovers between in-build japanese animators with western writers, like TMNT.
I still have yet to watch Macross in full, as well the movies that came along with it. The 80’s was a great decade for mecha anime, even while Gundam was still in the forefront.

Robotech was excellent. Surprisngly didnt have any of the cringe of most anime and macross post 2010 and felt like an honest pilgrimage aboard SDF-1.

People leave out Transformers, but the lore for it was written by Marvel and it was animated by a shitload of Japanese studios.

You also had a bunch of joint ventures in the 1980's like Mighty Orbots

and also Galaxy Rangers

Limited amount of influence, different culture, methods and attitudes when it comes to making the works.
I think if you get somebody who really digs into the meta level, it would be possible to do something really similar.

It's like if you want to make Star Wars, you don't look for the SW movies but what the influences and experiences of George Lucas was.
That way you can continue organically instead of just copying superficially what was before. For Anime and Manga you would need to actually check how it is being done as a process.

I know it sounds very autistic, but in a way creativity is nothing more than just picking up the experiences we have and just reassembling them in different variations. What can be an obstacle if the thing or guy you want to walk in the shoes of have a really alien set of values or sensibility. But that can be fixed with open mindedness and cultural osmosis on some level.

Despite "questionable" entries like II, 7, and Delta, Macross is forever. The recent rights settlement between Harmony Gold and Big West will further cement that. Here's a taste (for a limited time):
