The "Why didn't Chris like X?" thread -

I'm getting kinda annoyed by all the "Why didn't Chris like X?" where x is some video game franchise or TV show or what have you. Here are my thoughts - just because Chris doesn't say he likes something doesn't mean he doesn't like it. Like, I really haven't talked about how I think the reimagined Battlestar Galactica is awesome but just because I haven't sperged about it here doesn't mean don't I like it.

BUT, like with a lot of things, just because I'm personally not into it doesn't mean I won't allow it to be discussed. I think a better worded version of this question is "Why did X not seem to appeal to Chris as say, Sonic or Pokemon?".

So if you're wondering why Chris wasn't into something, post it here.

Chris and Megaman

It's similar to Sonic in several aspects, I find it strange he didn't seem get into Megaman. Why is that?

I recall Megaman games being less forgiving than Sonic. Sonic also had more bright colors and catchy music and that would appeal to Chris. Sometimes Chris will like X more than Y because X was introduced first or at the right time.

Also Sonic was a bigger name in video games and we know how Chris is more likely to try and like something if it saturates the media.

One, Megaman is a much harder game. Two, the original 8-bit games and even the 16-bit snes games were less colourful/cartoony than sonic, probably wouldn't appeal to him as much. Third, I could be wrong, but wasn't he more into Sega than Nintendo back then? I think he had a similar attitude with Sega vs. Nintendo like he does now with PS3 vs. Xbox.

Edit: I'm actually glad about this. I would recoil in horror if instead of a shitty Sonic recolour, we got a shitty Megaman recolour..... Pikaman!/Megachu!

Crap... I forgot about that, it even has the Sonichu colours almost!

It's amazing how that crappy American box art is now considered a classic and the new titles actually use that art style. Must be the nostalgia factor.

Just thought I'd point out that CWC spends the vast majority of his homemade Nintendo Power magazine and Song of Christian video ranting about his Megaman ideas. Megaman seems like one of those things he was super into for a short short while before inexplicably forgetting about it entirely (see: Yugioh, Pixelblocks, Starfox, etc. etc.). Given da autism, not that surprising.

I'm personally glad that Chris never really got into Mega Man mainly because I'm a big fan of the franchise and I would hate to see Chris ruin it with Megachu comics.

Fun fact: there's no "Mega Man X 64". The only game to appear on N64 was Mega Man Legends.

I think Mega Man may have been a casualty of the console wars, because Mega Man X and Legends series also appeared on the dreaded PlayStation, and Chris probably wasn't taking that too well, even when the games continued to be released for Game Boy Advance and GameCube.

Edit: Obvious dig: Maybe he was further traumatised when he accidentally read some game title as "MEGAN MAN"...

I wish it was a girl Megachu, though, with boobs. The head and hair already look rather sweet and feminine.

EDIT: or is it already supposed to be female? Closer inspection of the chest area reveals tittiesque structures.

First off; Mega Man games are balls hard from beginning to end, first time players may be turned off. And considering Chris' tendency to get angry at things easily he'd likely just ragequit and never pick it up again.

Second, cartoon animals appeal much more to the autistic audience much more. Mega Man is more of a human and thus less appealing to Chris.

Why didn't he get into Thomas the Tank Engine?

Considering that this show is autistic fare par excellence, it makes me wonder why he didn't become a fan...

Maybe the characters are too mature? (they work, take responsibilities...) Or not sufficiently Sonic-style "cool"?
Or is the show largely unknown in the US?

Thomas is known in the US, but didnt get popular until Chris was in his teens. Also, I don't recall Chris following the autistic stereotype of likening trains.
