I'm really pushing for the XFL right now. I like football, but hate the NFL, and all the alternatives I've had so far are Arena and Canadian football. Arena is too tight and niche, and I will be damned if I give a shit about a sport involving Canadians where you can't skate and beat the shit out of each other.

Also I've seen them use the in-helmet camera and I don't know why they don't film from there during plays every once in a while. It might be because I don't get motion sickness, but I would really want to see a good view of being there on the field and going for it.
I'm calling it now: the pinnacle of their success will either live/die with the 2021 NFL lock out (threat) potential; the potential of a lockout will allow for poaching of talent. If the XFL just wants to pay $50k a year; they'll just die out. They need to pay some serious money. It's fun, but it's weaker shit than what the NCAA has to offer.

They pay money for some NFL talent? Oh yea, they up their appeal. Right now it's "fun" (because of the right changes), but people want serious competition. The fun will easily wear off; no one cares about high school talent football talent.

Maybe I'll watch one of these games next week. Though, part of what makes football special to me, is that there are only 17 + 4 weeks out of the 52 in a year that it's actually on, and each team has a maximum of 20 they can play. By the time mid august rolls around and there's sweet fuck all on except for baseball (no thanks), I'm always excited thinking "Man, in 2 weeks there's going to be actual football again, I can't believe it, it's been so long"

The XFL might take away some of that specialness, I fear... but also, I watch enough goddamn football when the NFL season is on. Still, the mics everywhere sounds like fun, and it can be fun to watch shitty football at times if it's high scoring or there's lots of twists and turns.

Oh man I wouldn’t want to be ride or die on if there is an NFL lockout or not as a business. But if it does happen there is a chance to grab some low level talent not just the guys who are on the outside of the 52 man roster.

The pay is always going to be a problem, but it is tiered payed system with only one player being payed $500k a year and breaking down to the $50k for the bottom of the pile and a $4 million cap. But for the sake of the argument and there is a lockout it will be tempting to try and drag in some names to get the talent and ticket sales up. So they are stuck in a rock hard place. Do we have the money to raise the cap and pay more for NFL players who need money because of the lockout. They probably don’t have the money but you have to spend money to make money sometimes.

No matter how it goes, the XFL offseason will be interesting if they can keep the ball rolling.

Necro edit: games have been enjoyable this weekend. New York started their third string quarterback back Louis Peres who was the starter for the Birmingham Irons in the AAF. He was average today but that’s what was needed to get NY the win.
The Seattle St. Louis game has been a trash fire for Seattle. St. Louis only has DC stoping them from being the representative for the East in the XFL championship.

Says a lot that the entirety of today's games warrants nothing more than an edit, and ESPN is burying the games on the front page under college games. Go Dragons, quit sucking dick

The Texas Bowl is upon us. Go Gades.
As a life long roughneck fan, I hope the renegades fucking fall flat.

Also Dallas got lucky on not having a review on their first touch down.

we have found Bill’s dream WR

My favorite high IQ play of the weekend

This was legitimately the funniest thing I've ever seen in football. I've never laughed that hard at a game.

Nah, they didn't. It was pretty clearly good. Foot down in the endzone and ball past the line before losing it. That's called a touchdown. It has been interesting seeing the salty breakdowns from Roughnecks fans today because another team got some scores on them though. Seemed like lots of 'Houston fans' today were bandwagonners who hopped on the Roughnecks train at 3-0 and got real upset at the possibility of being on the losing side.

If anything Houston got "lucky" disabling Landry Jones during the offensive drive that would have seen him clinch the game. Reminded me a lot of Kimo von Oelhoffen diving into Carson Palmer's leg in 2006. Awful turn of events all around.

oh definitely I was reacting in real time and it looked like he lost control of the ball before he crossed the line. I was at work and forgot to edit my post lmao.

My favorite team is a bit of a toss up between St. Louis and Huston followed by a tie between Seattle and the cluster fuck that is New “We have no QB’s please god help us” York.

It was awkward as hell and really lucky on Parham's part.

I really like St. Louis. I've been pulling for them from week one even though they beat my precious Gades. Houston vs. St. Louis championship looking likely unless the other teams start to rally.

Wildcats and Dragons are still playing in Seattle this weekend despite the citywide ban on gatherings over 250 people. They just aren't admitting anyone to watch the game. Should make for an interesting viewing experience.

So it will just be televised only then?
