The Yakuza Series - Japan Simulator

I thought the Majima mode in the menu was more of the RTS bullshit, if it's an actual separate chapter I'll have to play it. I enjoyed the Haruka moments of K2 but I don't know if I'd want to do like 10 hours of it.
Nah, it's fine. It's like 3 or 4 hours of classic Yakuza gameplay depending on how much you want to dick around the city. But slightly harder since you don't get everything Kiryu gets

Currently playing through Yakuza 3 Remastered right now, and is number 4 less uh... parental? Just asking since the stuff does tend to drag on, despite it being nice to see Kiryu have some good in his life for once.

if you like Majima in 0, you'll like Majima mode more than the main game

Also, Yakuza 2 out of context

Oh yeah. 4 is a Yakuza interpretation of a noir mystery. The extent of Dad-Kiryu is two(?) scenes of Haruka telling him to get off his ass and go punch everything back into place.

a normal life in yakuza world.

Seriously, you will be asking soon why you just walk 10 to 20 meters and you keep getting into fights.
But don't actually be puzzled. its a daily occurence in Kabukicho (the district which Kamurocho is based on)
View attachment 1816211
In fact, despite being a such a small district, Kabukicho contributes 30% of the crimes committed in the country. There's shakedowns, kyakukiri and more. (though in the game, you mostly encounter shakedowns by yakuza, most rip-off crimes are relegated to sub-stories)

And while Kabukicho have been relatively safe since the 90s, it has gone back to the 70s era this year. Turf wars have been happening again lately since June this year. Hosts and scouts are having real turf wars vs yakuza as the host/hostess industry have been hit hard by the wuhan flu.

yes, this happened in kabukicho, and yes that man is going for a bike heat move.

I dunno about Dotonbori (Sotenbori in Yakuza) all I know Osaka is a very peaceful place.
I've been to Dotonbori and it's harmless. Lots of restaurants, feels very "touristy" at parts. Still a very nice area with the Dotonbori flowing between it, the version of it in Kiwami 2 captures the feeling pretty nicely.
Dotonbori also isn't a red light district like Kabukicho.

Back in 2018 we got very fucking drunk and didn't get mugged while looking for a hotel, so that's a thumbs up from me.

Good times, I wanna go back. Fuck the coof.

Beat 5 in my marathon. Felt like more of 4 and is kind of a blur.

Maybe 5 or 6 chapters in Y6 and liking it more since it's focused on just daddy Kiryu.

The bullshit grind for yen in chapter 12 is one of the worst I've ever seen. it's like free to play MMO tier and completely kills the pacing.

It's not enough to ruin the game for me since it's otherwise excellent but what in the fuck were they thinking?

I've been on and off playing Yakuza 0. Kiryu plays like shit and Majima is only marginally better because of the nunchuk move. The styles system is incohesive and overall this is some of the chunkiest, sluggish gameplay I've played in a beat 'em up. Does it improve at all in Kiwami or am I sucking wind until Kiwami 2?

If you think Zero is shit pretty much just give up on the series.

That's not an option. I bought 0, Kiwami, and Kiwami 2 all at once, and I don't not finish games that I buy. I like basically everything else about it aside from the combat, with the story of 0 being a huge hit with me. Majima's entrance was jaw-dropping.

It took me like 10 minutes because my company was already rank #1 so I was getting 3,000,000 yen for every shareholder meeting.

I'm guessing you didn't play much of the Management mini-game beforehand. That's unfortunate.

You're just gonna have to tough it out then I suppose, but it reminds me of when I played the original Yakuza's combat since that's exactly how I felt about that game at the time. If you dislike 0's combat, you would have hated how clunky the original was. Maybe you'll grow to like it by the time you're finished, but you're gonna have a rough time until you hit the Dragon Engine in Kiwami 2 since 0 is considered the pinnacle of the series by most fans.

Kiryu for me is better than Majima because Kiryu is really a hard hitter and bigger counter-hitter than Majima. But Kiryu's only good stance is Legend and Brawler. He becomes really godly when you unlock his proto-Tiger Drop in brawler mode and the Legend stance for the twist counter. then proceed to laugh hard as you can demolish everything with these two moves.

But my favorite of all heat actions is the cigarette spit heat move from Yakuza 3-5, shame its gone with 6 because of public smoking laws.

In Kiwami, its a lot better because there's no slowdown in style-switching. And also you can get really ridiculous combinations using style-switching like the Tiger Drop overdrive (rush-beast-dragon style switch) basically making Amon your bitch

I am mildly disappointed they took styles out for 2 and the later games. While having three weapons is nice, the styles really helped give the combat some extra flavor.

Idk, I like having one style in the dragon engine games because combat has such a great flow.

Rarely ever lock on anymore because Kiryu can attack gracefully in all directions without stopping. The heat mode is 6 is awesome.

I'm starting to remember why I wasn't that big of a fan of Yakuza 3. Everyone graduated from the school hardblocks. It's also a bit clunkier, but that's not really fair since it came before 0 and the Kiwami's.
