THQNordic Announces Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated - Nautical nonsense, now in HD

  • We're mostly back to 100%. Expect more disruptions that will cause sister service outages for the forseeable future.

Bubble bowling and the bubble missile are some of my favorite power ups in this game, along with just hitting everything and everyone with the bubble wand, except the thunder tikis.
Agreed. The sound design was crunchy so the robots blowing up just sounded nice, and it helped that hitting things had a weight to it. Just the sound of hitting a small robot was cool, and explosions even more so. I hope they can retain that aspect of the game because it helped make the game's otherwise simplistic combat that much more appealing.

i really enjoyed this game as a kid on my gamecube. so many good memories.

i also tried out the old PC version at that time and it wasn't that good compared to the console and even the GBA version.

all it was was a watered down port with nothing but just a bunch of minigames.

I hope Drawn to Life gets another sequel for modern systems. That series was so good.

New footage of BfBB: Rehydrated has surfaced, showing off (nearly) the entirety of Jellyfish Fields.

Things of note in the video:
  • The voice lines so far were kept completely intact from the original.
  • The level design has not been changed whatsoever.
  • They skipped the Bungie Jump section as it's not fully animated/programmed yet.
  • Particles that should be there aren't, but will be in the final cut.
  • SO. MANY. BLOOM EFFECTS, to the point that it makes the game look really saturated. Like...Christ, it's bad.
  • Fixed-camera cutscenes for when you activate something (i.e. the barrels in Jellyfish Fields) or when talking to characters either aren't finished yet or aren't going to be a thing.
  • The loading screen does not use the hand-drawn bubble animation from the original (the image was probably too low-res to properly do anything with), and instead opted for creating a brand new loading screen (alongside a button tutorial splash screen, possibly...? Maybe?).
  • The only sound to have been changed from the original was the jingle made when collecting Shiny Objects. Now, instead of a nice, softer chiming noise that's pleasant to your ears, it's now sounds like what I can only describe as "the GTA III cash pick-up sound", which gets really annoying really fast.
Overall, it's pretty clear it's still in the mid-development stage, but from what's been shown so far: it looks alright.

Worth noting that this is still pre-alpha if the words on the side of the video is to be believed. Given what's been shown, I have no doubt the game will end up being good. I'm not a fan of some of the changes, like the shiny objects jingle being changed but they don't bother me a whole lot.

Purple Lamp Studios is inviting SHiFT - a speedrunner with all world records in BfBB categories - to test Rehydrated and give his opinions. His fans have also sent Purple Lamp emails with their thoughts on the revealed pre-alpha. It should also be worth nothing that the CEO is aware of both the game's speedrunning community and some important strats used in the game.

Definitely not what I'd call worth it, but at the very least they're not doing a terrible monetization gimmick and the game itself is well priced. If people want to spend $300 for SpongeBob socks, go wild. I wish we'd get more news on what content they're adding back in, unless I've missed it.

They're really going all out on Collector's Editions. Destroy All Humans gets a really awesome one, BioMutant is getting a cool one. I feel like I'm back in the late 90's.
