At least for the people involved with this trash, it's a "mini-series" so they have plausible deniability when there aren’t any more and it mostly comes to nothing like Thundercats Roar, until the next project that only gets greenlit because it's "triggering the chuds" comes along.

Technically speaking this is more a 2010's thing, how long it will stuck depends really. Like another kiwi said, companies have taken the "You WILL like this" approach to these things.
Thankfully it seems mostly contained to cartoon network, Netflix for example has a wider variety of animation styles from Hilda to Glitch Techs to Kipo and so on. Personally, out of all the beanmouth shows the only ones I liked art style-wise were Steven Universe (more the backgrounds and alien stuff w/fusions etc.) and Gumball which as I've discussed in another thread mogs other shows of its time so hard it's kind of embarrassing.

I can't really tell if this is a cartoon aimed for kids, or cartoons aimed for adults. For kids, its very well known that kids wouldn't eat this shit up unless you have something going for it. Kids may be stupid, but they're not that stupid to eat everything up. If it's cool, humourous, or anything fun, kids will be right at it. Like Gumball that was talked about.
For adults, you have to try really, really hard on other things about the show to get their attention since the majority live on 'animation is for kids' mindset. Sure, they would watch animated shows aimed at and with their kids and that's different, but for something like that artstyle aimed directly at them when they want first impressions? Yeah, right. Take a page from successful animated adult shows, like Boondocks, Ballmasterz, or Superjail (which was intentionally supposed to be ugly but it works).
I can't tell what is the audience for this. I don't even know why hire the same two directors of a show that got cancelled for a new show that is just visually the same but with superheroes.

EDIT: just noticed: We really need to see it in motion at this point, I bet a majority of the cartoon will be just zoomed into their heads from the neck-up or upper torso like Thundercats Roar, and the few full body shots and action will be very few.

This is by far the gayest looking Aquaman I've ever seen.

That's quite the accomplishment.
Worst of all is it could look kind of nifty. The seaweed colour for the hair is not an awful choice for an alternative design. I just, much like Thundercats Roar, can't see myself watching it. I struggled through some episodes of Teen Titans Go after a mate noted there were some worthwhile bits in it and while the prior series of Teen Titans remains better I ended up sharing that opinion. This however looks like an unpolished turd.

And who's involved in this you might ask? You guessed it, J.J. Abrams.
