If you're wounded and running around a mountain, I think that the environment's hospitality DOES matter. Taking a rest doesn't change how relevant it is to your situation.

Summary:
- Jack has run all the way from Kandahar to Northern Afghanistan, a distance of several hundred miles, in a few days
- he has no food or water and has been bleeding heavily
- he has been running all this time with a bullet in his gut, an inch or two below his right lung; given Jace's description, this would be a fatal wound, severing the abdominal muscles, penetrating the guts and poisoning Jack's blood.
- he has been being pursued by terrorist tracker squads with attack dogs.
- Jack is using Jackknife's AK instead of his service weapon, but only has three bullets left.
- Jack has been discarding all non-essential items, but still has half an ounce of Afghan Kush that he stole from the Weed Farm, which he rolls into a spliff with a $20 bill and smokes unfiltered
- While high, Jack digs the bullet out of his gut with nothing but a throwing knife.

The great black mountain wolf approached with caution, sniffing curiously at the mingled smells of blood and cordite that wafted from the limp unconscious form. This wild and beautiful creature had never before seen a human being, but its native instinct rose within its heart, warning it to flee.
Yet it did not, for this was a lone wolf. With no place in the hierarchy of its pack, it had gone out into the world seeking to establish its own new pack where its dominance and leadership would go unchallenged. The first step on its long journey was to find a mate.
