On the note of Commander Stryker, in my mind Jace's split personality tulpa, breaking the barriers of fiction to manifest into reality, I think a thread on Jace's AU is in order. An AU wherein Jace has self inserted himself as Jack Stryker, a character which has had less detail fleshed out than a freaking watch.

As a longtime running member of the Parkourdude91 adventures, I've done a few once over of this war novel in subsequent order which you are welcome to watch:

And so, this thread is for discussion about Tiberius Rising; a scary look into what Jace envisions as his ideal course in life.

Are we going to a French or Hispanic accent in this video?

As I probably mentioned elsewhere I'm writing a spork of this thing. Progress has been slow because of reasons. And facepalming which just continues to happen in subsequent reads.

I've always had a weird accent, it's a little French, a little Polish, a little Viet, a little Connecticut, and a little Texan. Accents are formed by environment, and I've been around.

One of my harder decisions regarding making that little romp up there was trying to make myself credible (to him) by pulling my best "American" accent or just going with the flow. In the end though, I guess it doesn't matter.

It's interesting going after this story because this is who he wants to be. So we are given the opportunity to not criticize Jace Conners, but rather Stryker. Now they are becoming one and the same in some strange Liquid Ocelot sort of way, I think it'll be important to look this over.

One of my favorite parts is literally at the very beginning when the sniper is taking a shot from 1.3 miles away. An awesome shot I might add and made even more awesome by the fact he makes it in literally one shot.

Jace Stryker said:
He calculated the distance to target, the ballistic drop of his bullet, and factored in the Bernoulli effect. All was clear, and all he had to do was take the shot. His spotter, Jenkins, announced the distance to target: 1.3 miles away.

At the start he manages to calculate not only the distance to target and ballistic path of the bullet but the Bernoulli effect as well. All in his head. Figuring out the ballistics of a bullet is impressive, but he's got to be some kind of math wiz if he can calculate the distance AND the Bernoulli effect on the bullet when the Bernoulli Principle doesn't apply to this! The Bernoulli principle applies to fluid dynamics. People who don't know will say this applies to bullets when they leave the barrel of a bun but this is untrue. Yes, a crosswind will affect a bullet's path and even a small crosswind at the start can deflect a bullet but this has nothing to do with Bernoulli. No, it's called the "Magnus Effect". This specifically deals with a spinning object and how the air will deflect it. It's actually a lot more complex than that as aerodynamic drag has a much greater effect on it but for the sake of argument we'll say that this is what he should have been using.

Then his spotter repeats what he already knew which is the distance to the target.

It's almost like he's writing the trollfic to beat all trollfics but he's super cereal about it.

I read the first chapter back when people were talking about how Tiberius Rising is Jace's "Sonichu". Let me just say that Tiberius Rising is a shitty ass load of goddamn bull fuck. Seriously, John Ringo could write a better novel than Jace. Hell even Stephanie Meyer, and that's saying something! Is Tiberius Rising salvageable? In the right hands, yes. But not Jace's. The whole "novel" is an ego trip (Also what the fuck is with the insanely high body count of journalists?) that reads like a very bad Call of Duty fanfic. Also can someone tell me why the tagline is "They say one bullet can change the course of history. Looks like they were right"? Does Stryker killing Expendable Journalist #1 have something to do with that?

He says partway down
He saw a terrorist in a burkha holding an innocent male journalist like a human shield

A burqa, or burkha depending on how you want to spell it, is enveloping outer garment worn by women in some Islamic countries to cover their bodies when in public. So unless he's implying that Omar is a crossdresser or that somehow he's wearing this to cover his face and body, how would they know it's him?

I think the word he was looking for was a keffiyeh.

Sonichu had more structure than this. Basically Chris wanted to recreate the style of the late-90s afternoon cartoons he loved. Since he didn't have the resources to animate, he did a comic version, and, no matter how poorly he did, it's still recognizably a comic adaptation of a cartoon.

I seriously don't know what Tiberius Rising is supposed to be. This is a book written by someone who's never read a fucking book (because reading is gay) and who doesn't even know how to work with that format. In that sense Tiberius Rising really is like Stephenie Meyers because that woman did not know how to structure a novel when she tried to write one.

If anything, it sounds like a parody of the mass-market military biographies my husband loves, where it's all wooden writing mixed with technical-specs porn. Except Jace isn't self-aware enough to write a parody. This is literally what he believes.

And like Stephenie Meyers... he somehow finds an audience.
