No food board is complete without a shitpost-filled thread about the proper gratuity to be given to the fine people who bring us our food.

I say 20% rounding up to the nearest dollar, assuming at least adequate service. And "nearest dollar" is usually bullshit, if it's even a penny over the dollar, it goes up to the next dollar.

When service is really awesome, even more.

15% is for mediocre service. I'm not happy with it, but I'm going to cut some slack and assume you didn't give this level of service because you're an asshole, maybe you were having a bad day.

I have given "no tip at all" ever. The only tier below this is "you're lucky I didn't stab you" and I've only done that twice in all my experiences in restaurants. That consisted of putting a handful of pennies under a glass of water and turning it upside down. That was for service personnel on the level of Roma gypsies.

Otherwise, I always tip.

Also if you don't, you're a scumbag.

I hope we don't have any scumbags here.

I always tip at least 20% even if the service sucks because I pity waitstaff, tbh. Usually I tip way more than 20% because I'm a nice person, though.

I don't pity them. Sometimes they're making pretty good money. I just recognize what they're doing is of value to me and reward it when it's worth it.

It usually is very much worth it.

I'm also usually a repeat customer at my favorite places, sometimes have weird demands, will go alone, have some minor dish and then spend hours sitting and reading documents, etc. So I like to establish early on in the relationship that they'll actually be rewarded for putting up with my bullshit.

Well on my birthday I enjoyed the overall attitude of the staff, but a very expensive order went wrong twice in a row for my family and in a very short amount of time between that and the "correction". No hard feelings, but the tip was cut in half for the first time at that establishment.

None of us were upset and admitted to enjoying the other aspects of the meal, instead of having a conniption fit.

20%, unless they're just clearly not even trying.
I'm fine with shitty service because it's busy or they're understaffed, but if we're like the only people there and you're just fucking about, you're not getting tipped.

20% for all service for me, if the service is shitty, and I mean so shitty the employee should be fired, I leave a one cent tip.

20% because the math is easier. More if I'm drinking. My bartender is a good friend of mine, so he'll comp a drink or two, but I end up tipping more then I would've paid.

I hardly ever eat at sit-down restaurants, but I try to always tip service workers. Not even just at restaurants, I tip hairdressers, tattoo artists, piercers, etc as well. 20% is my go-to.

My mom was a waitress for most of my childhood and I was a hairdresser for a couple of years, so I know how important it is. I've only ever seen my mom not leave a tip twice in my entire life and both times it was well-deserved.

I do 20% generally, at my regular haunts. They all know me as a regular and relatively undemanding customer, and I pretty much never get bad service from them.

I usually pick up pizza, whether I'm getting local or from a chain. But on the rare occasion I get delivery I usually toss in a little extra, assuming pizzabro gets to me on time. In college I delivered pizza at night in a $500 Mitsubishi Mirage and I can sympathize with the people doing that job.

I also tip the barber a bit better if the service is good.

Twenty fivw to thirty percent depending on service. If the service is terrible, it goes down to five to ten percent. I also tip tattoo artists, at foodtrucks, bars, etc. At bar's, I usually tip the highest due to the fact that after doing this for a while, you will get very strong drinks and a reduced price point.

EDIT: Spelling.

Also what really pisses me off and almost ensures a shitty tip from me is "forgetting" to charge me for food items, telling me and giving me the "wink nod" that it I should tip more because you are screwing over the restaurant owner

I don't usually tip because normally I will be a regular anyways so I will be a constant source of income for them. But if I go to a place where I got my meat as I asked, then sure I'll tip from 10-20% depending on how expensive the meal was. I also tip if the service is really good. Although I found some cases where they wouldn't accept tips :(.

You in Europe? Because in America, you're basically saying you're not tipping because you'll be there again with the waitstaff knowing they're going to get fucked every time they see your face.

Yes, I'm from Europe. Maybe it's a cultural difference with the US.

You really don't know?

Jesus Christ man, tipping is one of those things Americans go crazy over. How could you not have noticed that?
