Yes, I'm from Europe. Maybe it's a cultural difference with the US.
Tipping is big here in the states because our waitstaff get paid jackshit. $2.13/hr is the average minimum wage for tipped workers meanwhile the average minimum wage for non-tipped workers is $7.25/hr. Customers are expected to make up the difference. It's a shitty system designed to put more money in restaurant owners' pockets.

Anyway, I tip 20% on average service, 25-30% on great service, and 15% on crappy service (unless there was a reason for crummy service like the restaurant being super busy and/or understaffed, or if my server is just starting out).

Oh, ok. I gotcha. I didn't know that some salaries were so dependent on tipping. In Europe, or at least Spain it's more like the minimum wage for non-tipped workers for waitstaff so that's why I don't usually tip. Well, TIL.

It's like the single most famous thing about Americans. Well, other than being fat.

I give at least 20%, a little more if the bill just rounds out that way or I have a little extra in the way of small bills. I always try to tip in cash, I'm not saying you're not declaring your tips, but if you don't, then I want to make it easy on you. Also, there's probably a delay in getting tips off of cards, while they can take their cash at the end of shift. There have been times when I didn't tip, and it's because the server was complete bullshit. Even if the restaurant was bullshit but the server tried, I tip. If it comes down to me not tipping, then I either never go back or wait about a year before I go back to see if anything has changed.

I don't understand this nonsense.

So, in my state, tipped workers have to make minimum wage when you include their tips. Or the employer has to make up the difference.

Because people tip generously by default, tipping usually means they make a fuckton, at the bare minimum.

Tipping is a great system and I don't see why people complain about it so much.

We don't tip around here, unless its really flashy and good.

One time I went to a restaurant here and they had an "optional tip" of 20% and added as the biggest number on the paper, just above it was the exact total price. I think they gave up on the optional tip because everyone wised up.

Eastern Europe here. I tip around 15-20% if the service was good, if it sucked - less or nothing at all. Sometimes the waiters really just don't give a fuck. I'm not going to tip you if I have to wait 30 minutes for you to notice that I'd like to speak with you or if I have to yell all the way across the fucking room like a savage - learn to eye contact, you fucking chode.

I don't like the idea of tipping.
I feel forced to tip because I know they usually make less than actual minimum wage. So it really doesn't feel like a tip for a job well done, but more of an obligation, because only assholes, black people, and Chinese nationals don't tip.

I usually tip $2-$5 unless the service was really, REALLY good.

I try to tip pizza delivery pretty well, and it seems to be known now as my pizza is always delivered so hot it feels like it was in the oven 30sec ago.

I tip a little on the generous side. Not crazy, but a few bucks more than usual. I don't dine out/get pizza enough to care.

In my experience the money isn't a huge deal since they make good cash; it's just expressing that you give a shit. Never met a delivery driver who didn't clearly appreciate it. Might just be because I'm in Canada though.
