It's not so much politics themselves I'm sick of, it's actually trying to have a civil conversation about politics with others. Optimistic as hell of me, I can't really say that's ever been the case, but it truly does seem we're in an age of extreme polarization. You're either on our side, or you're one of THEM!!! You're a democrat/liberal? You must be one of those easily offended, SJW genderspecial authoritarian faggots! You're a republican/conservative? You must be a racist, homophobic Bible thumping inbred! You're a libertarian? You must want to legalize EVERYTHING including pedophilia, hate the poor, love Ayn Rand and hurr hurr muh roads!

Hardly anyone bothers to think outside of how their narrative spins the story. As obnoxious as the NPC meme can get, there's a lot of truth to it. It's easier to parrot your rhetoric rather than engage someone who has a different opinion or belief, but ultimately wants the same thing you do. I've gotten to the point I typically don't bother talking too deeply about politics with people unless I've gotten to know them very well beforehand.

Merry Christmas to you as well.

You summarized how I feel about this rather well. I can generally respect someone's take if its not utterly retarded or at least come to accept that they truly believe it but they will never show that in return. No one is allowed to exist if they are outside of their preferred color of scarf. If you dare wear the wrong color you are no longer allowed to speak, they will shout every single bad term they can at you despite having no proof or reason to beyond you're the enemy now.

I'm certain these things have happened many times in history but wow does it feel awful. Oh and 2020 is an election year in the US! Hope you're all excited for being vilified.

Merry Christmas one and all.

"Jaded" is the word I would use for how I feel about politics. I just dont care anymore, Im done with their shit.
If they try and talk about politics, and Im serious, I start talking over them about intentionally stupid topics that Im clearly lying about.
"Did you know that the other day the first man on the world sky dived under the ocean? He broke every record, and drank a beer while he did it, have you guys heard about him?"
If they expect me to listen to their god damn bullshit, then I expect them to listen to mine. Plus it usually gets a laugh and it smoothly changes the subject, you have to keep eye contact with the person being a fag though otherwise it doesnt work. And if theyre dumb you might have to tell them "leave your politics in your purse"
Merry Christmas buddy <3

In politics, I've long given up supporting anyone or any party in earnest. Instead, I just look to what few issues I really care about, and then hold my nose while supporting politicians that favor them, and do what I can to sink those that oppose them. For instance, the current administration in the U.S. is doing a good job appointing judges that tend to think as I do, so even if Trump is an exceptional individual and a frothing Zionist, the horror at what the alternative is will keep me from anything but supporting him. I think that people on both sides are the same way, but it is how things are. Unfortunately this leads to a lot of resentment or deadlock; however, most of the 'issues' are sort of binary, or at least are once the reach the realm of electoral politics. In a perfect world we could have a reasoned conversation about issues and reach some sort of compromise but that's really not how democracy works in practice, and all too often both sides, but especially the left, tend to run with whatever slack they're given in an extreme way and often a manipulative one, and do a lot of legislating in the bureaucracy where the issues don't even get brought up at the ballot box and judiciary. Especially the fact that we aren't voting on the issues so much but instead on people who are going to be appointing judges and bureaucrats is what leads politics to be so slapfighty and exceptional as the "issues" that cause people to love or hate politicians become increasingly ancillary to the realpolitik reasons to vote for them. We willfully ignore what is wrong with our guy and willfully force memes about the other guy which we know are questionable. It's war. Democracy sucks. It would be far better to just have a Dear Leader...that is, assuming he didn't support the views of the other side.

On that note Merry Christmas.

I stopped caring about politics recently. It's just elaborate theater designed to keep people distracted from the banking cartel, which is the true cause, be it direct or indirect, of nearly all of the problems today. It's almost impossible to change most peoples' minds, because their positions are backed by other people whom they surround themselves a lot who also have the same stances, and economic and social opportunities. It's an investment that almost no one is willing to go back on. Even if you present them with strong evidence to support your position, the benefits of staying in the club will always outweigh the truth because they've already put down their time, energy and possibly money for it. The only way they can change their minds is if it's no longer beneficial for them to stay in their clubs, whether it's because they stopped providing benefits, or they could gain more by joining other clubs. That usually happens due to a shift in economics.

I put more stock in economics (no pun intended) over politics and culture because it's a far greater indicator of the state of any country, past, present and future. Politicians can say whatever they want and not follow through and culture provides subjective views on how society operates but are very biased and opinionated. Economics, however, is objective, like mathematics. At its core is the study of choice. Examining economic data can tell a lot about what people value, and what they may do.

For that reason, I no longer have a political position or belong to any political club. I see contemporary politics like I do the seasons and any other cycle. The world's only going to go down one road regardless of whether you or I want it to go that way. And just like winter comes after fall, collapse will comes after decadence. Civilizations throughout history have been where America is today. It's only a stage in the cycle of empires and there's no use fighting the inevitable. The best thing you can do is get out of the way. Lastly, I'll give you this - I too am tired of the miserable state of the western world, and by extension the internet. Having grown up in both worlds and seeing them turn them to shit aches my heart so much, and knowing all these efforts to reverse it are for ultimately futile doesn't make things any better. If anything, the collapse of the US economy is the only thing I'm looking forward to, Sure it'll be far worse than the 1930s and likely billions of people around the world would suffer to carrying degrees, but it'll be a mercy kill, and hard times do create strong men after all.

Merry fucking Christmas.

Sometimes there's that one person who comes out of nowhere just to claim "oh you say x because you're a conservative/liberal!!!!!!!!!!!11111111" in arguments that had nothing to do with political discussion at all.

I hate politics because of how divisive they are by nature. I feel like a lot more people would get along if their political affiliations never came up in conversation. Yes, their value systems would still potentially clash, but I feel like their reactions would be far less vitriolic without the added stigma of being part of the opposing team.

The worst are those people who overvalue politics, and try to tell you that if you don't pick a side, you don't have any principles. It's like, yes I do asshole, my principles just aren't downloaded into my brain from some political party.
