He doesn't have any real justification for his crackpot contrarianism, but the Twelve Tribes were of the real Israel, and the Orthodox opposition to Zionism is that essentially the state called Israel is not that of the prophecy and is, in fact, a secular abomination defying divine will. I don't know if Tommy subscribes to any of that bullshit, or just standard leftist anti-Semitism where Jews are the "real Nazis."
