At least 10 popular Twitch gamers have been kicked off the Twitch streaming platform for 24 hours affter allegingedly playing copyrighted music during their streams, and all of the complaints appear to come from a single source.

Gaming streamers xQc, Sinatraa, Daequan, Alfie, Avxry, KittyPlays, Pokelawls, Sneaky, Castro1021, Nico, Symfuhny, and Solluminati all reported 24-hour suspensions from Twitch following takedown notices from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). Many of the violations have been tied to a song by rapper Juice Wrld, according toKotaku.com.

This smackdown is likely to be the first of many, since most gamers play music in the background without authorization during play. It's a problem that Amazon owned Twitch could solve by cutting deals with rightsholders

I have never heard of Juice Wrld. I imagine I'm not the only one. I'm sure he's very talented and we'll all remember him as a rap legend right up there with Tupac.

But it's really stupid to play copyrighted music during a stream in this day and age. Go find something public domain or commission a theme song. It's not worth the risk.

I’d be down with a classy classical stream, but no twitch streamer is going to commission two hours of theme song for filler noise.

Im surprised this hasnt happen sooner.

A lot of streamers either have a playlist of random songs to play during their streams or they allow their followers to add any music they want to play onto the stream.

Although most people who use music during their streams tend to be artists or painters, gamers also use music when they do irl streaming or having an intro or outro before playing their games.

Its also funny because if you watch a past stream, if the streamer was playing a copyright music, the video actually mutes it so you cant hear the sounds and the streamer's voice. Its quite funny.

The only twitch streamer I watch is Almighty Tevin and he bitches when someone requests a song that's easily identifiable. The unspoken rule is to only request off-the-radar stuff like remixes and chopped and screwed stuff that can go unnoticed. That being said, I don't think this is a new thing. I just think these twitch types are just saying to hell with it and doing whatever they want since they think they're popular.

I let youtube recommend me a Sodapoppin AIDS stream where people were tipping double digits to make youtube or song clips play while he played WoW, the trend was to annoy him with things he wouldn't like, such as distorted pop songs or memes. It's interesting to see how people find ways to fill the dead air.

I believe in Germany you actually need a license to do a livestream. Of course this was a few years ago I heard about >Germany doing such a thing, but as I think about it now, if platforms required streamers to have a license to stream a la radio stations, you probably wouldn't have to worry about VODs being muted or getting any suspensions over copyrighted music.
Ironically I don't think YouTube gives much of a shit about copyrighted music as Twitch does.
