DID itself is a contentious diagnosis overall and has been widely challenged. Despite being in the DSM it has vague and very unsupported diagnostic criteria which isn't rigorously investigated (not shocking considering some of the other claims they make). "Alters" and "split personalities" may be completely fictional, and the original case study for this, "Sibyl," who the famous book is named after, is widely thought to have been manipulated by her psychiatrist to display multiple personalities in order to get publicity.In a sane world we'd be calling 100% of the people who claimed DID online fake and gay. True DID tend to not attention whore online - they're too preoccupied with keeping their life unfucked up.
