About a decade ago I knew a talented intelligent guy who was neither autistic nor retarded. Seriously, he was a thoughtful guy and not a total mongoloid.
Anyway a mutual acquaintance of ours (FTM) trooned out. He asked her, no shit, if she would start seeing actual physical changes now that she'd simply decided she was a man. I don't think he really thought his question through, but on some level he was asking if she'd unlocked some magic trans-activation I guess. He definitely was not talking about binding or testosterone or haircuts, he was talking about like... spontaneous morphing action being unlocked through sheer willpower.

You could say this goes to show he was a dipshit, but I think it only proves how ignorant the average normie is regarding this stuff and how little they even consider it. I was looking around for sideshow type things for the thread, and I came across this troon named Sarah Zedig with some strange to the point of mysticism thread on what exactly "gender" is. I usually don't showcase the way I get to the things I show on here, but I got to the thread by way of a second troon, who is arguably even weirder than the first one, if only because his personality appears to have branched out beyond "person who is gay" into "person who is gay, socialist, and a furry." There's isn't any one thing I'm focusing on here, because there's just too much of it to cover in one sitting- he retweeted a troon version of the 41% joke, he tweeted out some word salad in all caps about how gay werewolves are, and there's plenty of other things worth checking out.

It’s always been the dark ages. Some times I’ll hear one of my older friends go on (and on and on...) about how classic rock was way better than the garbage we have now. But they are only hearing the classics after all these years, the stinkers don’t get played. I think it’s easy to look at people as uniquely dumb in contemporary times, but we are only reading the geniuses and visionaries of the past. We are not reading the morons. I mean, even if they would wind up creating a moronic ideology, followed by most morons, and taught by a bunch of fake-credential morons, usually they were still way more smart and charismatic than the average person.

Right now with the troon stuff you are seeing the average adherents of a moron ideology in real time. Humans are uniquely capable of stupidity, there is no bottom, and the more Sophisticated a person is, the deeper they can rationalize into a stupid line of reasoning. Some times people erroneously see history as a straight line of eternal progression towards the present times, instead of a bunch of trial and error that often wind up doing more harm than good. I think you are looking in the wrong direction here because the loudest and most blatant narcissism in the trans movement comes from the AGPs who aren't autistic (that is, there are AGPs who are also autistic, but they are not leading the pack and setting the trends and getting all the attention) and the autists who get drawn in are just aping that behavior because it's acceptable and they never get pushback. That is not to say that non-AGP online trans spaces don't encourage narc behaviour as well, but that is just what happens in social groups with no accountability, whether they are full of autistic people or not.

I disagree as while there is an element of truth to this in that the top rank troons are comparatively non-autistic (also worth noting that many prominent troons are FtMs, e.g. Katie "Chase" Strangio), and in that sense I think you're right. And the most awful and obnoxious individual troons are probably not very autistic (e.g. 'Andrea' James -- though we can't be certain about this, he's so odious that I half suspect he is actually a massive sperg; simply hard to be such an awful person without there being something concretely 'wrong' with you.)

I think the truth is that these individuals don't matter as much as the collective output of internet subcultures -- troonism is an incredibly online phenomenon, which are often dominated by relatively more autistic troons, Hence, the ideas that precipitate out of these subcultures inform and legitimate the approaches taken by more prominent figures. You can thus draw a line between particular cognitive styles and arguments, demands & claims by more prominent figures who don't necessarily share in them. Indeed prominent figures can acknowledge that most of the slogans/ideas etc. are more or less stupid if taken literally, or even seriously, but still repeat or defend them simply for instrumental reasons. Joe Lavery is probably the best example of someone who does this.

There's something that feels like their brain is 'running on the algorithm', like if they have strict rules in their head and if something doesn't fit they'll just go *does not compute*. This is very apparent in autism/aspergers subreddits, where the commenters seem to just can't understand OP's questions when something more difficult is asked, They'll just run on about their experiences that's vaguely related to the posts - with no attempt to humour or reply the OP at all. They seem to have tendency to believe in something so extreme without nuances. And as much as they like to speak against stereotyping autists as lacking in empathy or being robot logic machine. - They just kept doing those things without realising they're doing it. (As @itscallednyotaika said about their kind of empathy.)

In a world where there’s a very small number of troons and they’re all HSTS, you would not see autists trooning out. It’s both because of who they are and who those around them are. But let’s think about why autistic males troon out (females are a different story, and I don’t want a crazy long post).

If you’re an autistic, your whole life has been marked by you feeling like an outsider. Sometimes people make fun of you, and you don’t understand why. Your red shirt was fine last year, but now that it’s faded in the washing machine, it’s pink, and that means it’s for girls? But it’s the same shirt. You aren’t very good at sports. Sometimes your emotions are really intense and you can’t control them. You don’t get invited to a lot of parties.

You’re not comfortable in your body. You don’t know why. You’re just not.

Middle school is worse. The other boys are even meaner to you. Maybe the girls are mean to you too, but at least they’re nice to each other. (Note: while middle school girls aren’t actually nice to each other, the level of subtlety that goes on is usually higher and thus more difficult for an autist to grasp). And suddenly boys are nicer to them. You don’t quite realize yet this is because boys are sexually attracted to them.

You discover porn. Your parents don’t have internet filters. You’re sad and you don’t know how to talk to real girls, so you keep watching it, and maybe you start watching weirder stuff.

Maybe you get into being a furry, because you’ve always loved animals and cartoon animals (they’re a lot easier to understand than people). And you meet other furries online. And some of them are trans. What’s that? They start describing themselves, and it sounds like you. You imagine a new self for you, where you don’t have to follow all these rules for being male that seem so arbitrary. You’re already into weird porn by this point, so furry trap porn isn’t a stretch.

Then you buy some thigh high socks and they feel really good. (It’s because autists like being squeezed). Hey, gender euphoria, right? And maybe you start taking estrogen and that feels good too (scientists have microdosed male autists on estrogen before and it seems to help).

By this point, you’re firmly convinced.

(And anyone online knows how hard it is to get an autist out of a stupid ideology he’s discovered).

i don't have father brown's research chops, but my own perception with autism is that it's supercharged sensitivity that in some cases straight-up blows a fuse and shorts out the thing entirely. this is seen most sadly in the extreme cases of it, where people can barely handle the sensory overload from just existing and shut down entirely as their only way to cope.

a very fitting example of the kind of breaker-flipping a less afflicted autistic might do is the avoidance of eye contact. it's because they get an overload of stimulus (that can be almost painful) from meeting eyes that for people without the heightened sensitivity is a mechanism we've specifically evolved for reading people. so they breaker-flip and shut down the sensitivity by avoiding eyes as a defensive reflex.

then you have the blown fuse autistics, who have no trouble meeting eyes but no fucking clue how to process what they see from it, because their mechanism would so overload them it's shut down forever as the body's own defense from it.

so you have what's a strange mix of two qualities that seem completely at odds-- understimulation and overstimulation-- but are in fact right next to each other for autistics, the only question being if they're breaker-flipping at high sensitivity or blown fuses at no sensitivity.

then there's the interwoven comorbodity of adhd (a terrible name for it) also juggling understimulation and hyperfocus we really need to divorce from our previous understanding of it because it does nothing to explain the manifestation of recurrent symptoms like justice sensitivity and rejection dysphoria.

anyway, i've never taken a psych class or read up beyond skimming on autism in my life but i've found my live wire/flipped breakers/blown fuse metaphor helpful to me and you know i like nothing better than expounding at length on my own theories.

Trying to figure out why autists are attracted to transgender ideology in particular is missing the mark because autists would fall just as heavily into any online cult that catered to them and promised to make them feel less left out. If building model trains was as wildly popular and culty in online spaces and was held up as an untouchable moral good by the most respected people in our society, autists would be joining model train cults instead. Gender in particular has very little to do with it.
