its that time of year again. the weather gets colder, darker and the freaks come out one last night before hibernating.

anyone got any trick or street stories to share? me and a few buddies in middle school would one night dress up as robbers and walk the nicer neighborhoods and scare people by banging their windows or "threaten" to rob them of their candy.
im rather surprised none of us got beaten up or caught when they chased us.

To give out to tricker treaters one year I made biscuits, cut them up into pieces, rolled them up, covered them in loads of sugar, microwaved it so the sugar could melt into the biscuit, and then I passed it off as "candied biscuits".

Surprisingly, they were actually pretty good. Sugar bodes well with buttermilk, I suppose.

when I tricked or treat, My mother only took me to people she knew for safety reasons. the people they took me too mush have been Jewish since they only would give out one piece of candy. however, One time, after going to one of their house, they must of accidently gave me a 100 dollar bill. odd about it, I gave it to my mother to have. she told me to have it and I told her to have it. that was a weird Halloween. also, that Halloween I seen a kid dressed up as Shrek get his ass kicked for some reason. no joke, Shrek got his ass kick by as guy dressed up as Jason.

Just remembering some of the odd things we'd used to get at certain houses.

The fundie that would put Chick Tracts into our bucket, maybe with a single fun sized Tootsie Roll if your costume wasn't "satanic"

The hippie boomer lady who would give us granola clusters instead of candy. They were actually pretty good though so we didn't mind.

The dentist that would give us mini toothbrushes or wax lips instwad of candy

The rich old couple who would give out those huge king sized candy bars, but only as a "first come first serve" basis. Latecomers had to "settle" for regular sized candy bars

Best one was the apathetic drunk dude who just dumped an entire bowl of candy into the first trick or treaters's bucket and called it a night.

Me and my friends took everything from one of those "take one" bowls. It only had sticks of gum without the little packages they come in.

Best memory was the neighborhood was such that people didn't gate each other for the most part and you'd come home with bundles of stuff from going out for three hours.
Oh wait, also the joggers. You'd occasionally get some joggers without costumes coming up looking intimidating. I'm glad guns exist.
Someone needs to add favorite costume too to this.

I miss trick or treating. Even if I hadn't out grown it by now there's not gonna be much if any this year ah well paydays Monday hopefully I can have enough left to buy some last minute candy set it aside for Saturday, and stay home watching horror movies while helping myself to all the red vines, gotzee carmel's, brach's Candy corn, and movie theater candy in boxes

The final year that I went Trick or Treating I scored a whole bag of Sour Patch kids, rock on random neighborhood dude. My friend, her boyfriend, and I were obviously older kids which lead to a really funny incident at one house, there was a scarecrow on the front bench that as we were walking up I SWORE moved. I watched it out of the corner of my eye while we rang the bell and waited for the door to open. After the nice lady gave us our candy she wished us a Happy Hanukkha of all things, and called out to seemingly no-one,Happy Hanukkha. That was apparently the code for "They're older kids, Greg. Give 'em a good scare!" Because as we left the porch the suspicious scarecrow came to life and shambled after us groaning. I also made a sweet-ass Bowser costume with a paper-mache shell for that year.

Weirdest thing I ever got was back in middle school when a lady gave me a ziplock bag of what I thought were coffee beans at first, turned out to be chocolate covered rasins. That same year one of my friends got a cup o' noodles and a spork from some college dudes who ran out of candy.

Now I'm too old to Trick or Treat without it being Very Weird so I just make a point of always having a good candy selection with some extra goodies for anyone who comes by. My grandma goes all out and makes little goodie bags with candy and halloween themed pencils and things, so I started throwing spider rings and skull bubble wands in with the candy. Little kids go apeshit for the spider rings, the older kids appreciate the pencils. I usually go all out with the decorations and creepy carved pumpkins, enough that a few years ago I overheard a little girl (before knocking on the door) say to her mom "This house is too spooky!" I had my mom answer the door for her since she's a lot less intimidating. Last year I had a downright punchable parent- the girl was super little and at that age I don't expect them to say Trick Or Treat cause that's a lot of syllables when you're 3. I held the bowl out for her and before she could grab any candy the mom sharply said "Mckenna! Mckenna! What. Is. The. Protocol?!" Fuckin "protocol", your kid is 3, lady!

a story from my past. me and some friends were just walking around aimlessly in the night of halloween with nothing to do until, we spot a dog just walking past us. i looked around and notice the dogs owner was nowhere to be seen and my friends agreed it was weird. a few minutes afterwards, we spot two kids running around yelling a name and asks us if we saw a dog around these parts. we comment we saw a big dog just walking past us a few minutes ago and the girls said it was their dog. one of my friends asks if we help look for the dog, if he would get paid. the girls being kids, had no money on them but said thier parents would pay us if we help and find the dog.

we looked for it in the dark night but the kids parents ended up finding it before we did. my friend who asked for money, spent 10 mins trying to guilt trip the girls mom to pay us (no, his not Jewish but we would joke about him being one since he was a greddy person by nature) but we only got a bit of candy out of it.

I remember hearing (ages ago) rumors about a situation where some dudes who were unquestionably too old to go trick or treating went trick or treating with a shitton of flour. They had to use some sort of large car to transport it, I think a van or truck or something? Everyone who refused woke up with dough on their cars because there was rain in the morning.
