Hey, remember last week when people were terrified that Trump was going to institute some kind of Far-Right Christian Theocracy? I wonder what those people are upset about today...

...Oh.
The Apostles Creed isn't taught in most Christian religions. If you were raised in any of the "born again" Christian churches you've likely never even heard of the Apostles Creed. I've known plenty of people who were raised in an extremely Christian environment who had absolutely no idea what the Apostles Creed even was, let alone where it fit into the Christian religion. One of my closest friends is a Reverend and I didn't even know about the Apostles Creed until just a few years ago after bumping into a bunch of Methodists who recited it, for God's sake.

It's really not strange at all to not see him reciting something that probably wasn't even taught in his church to begin with, but Holy shit is it ever hypocritical of these people to start insisting that he isn't "Christian enough" after the shit-flinging storm they raised over Mike Pence's religious views.

Donald Trump is technically Presbyterian, though I woudn't imagine he's spent a ton of his life in Sunday School. I'd expect him to be exposed to the creed, but if he doesn't want to say it at a funeral, I give exactly zero fucks.

...Oh.
I like that they have to point out that it's a Christian Apostles' Creed, as if it's extremely mandatory for a Christian to know the Creed by heart, let alone know of it.

But upon looking at that picture and headline, all I can think of is Matthew 15:8:

"This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me."

...Oh.
Every week the MSM and Twitter just keep changing their tune just for the sake of disagreeing with Trump, exposing them as the shifty two-faced goons that they are who only care about being correct. Last week: "Everything is too Christian and dominated by Republicans! This is your fault Drumpf! Fuck the Right!". Now: "Trump is not Christian enough and not a true Republican! Left and Right must unite (but we won't backstab you, change our opinions or go back to talking smack about you and your churches next week! We swear!)!". Every day we come closer to seeing the day when the left might actually start to say breathing is bad if Trump says its good. All he would need to do is come out in support of some environmental cause or some tree-planting event.

Bit annoying that it's euphoric atheists who will be crying hardest about this.

It isn't taught in most denominations yes, Episcopal, Methodists, and Anglican are a few that do use it, but it is also well used by the Roman Catholic Church.
By far the largest denomination of Christianity, but it makes sense American's have little clue of that since Catholicism isn't big in the USA.
To be exact about what it's used for, it's used for the Roman Rite and Baptism.

This just in: PETA thinks animals give a shit what idioms we say about them.
PETA hasn't been relevant ever since people started paying attention to them when Pamela Anderson began endorsing them only for she and everyone else to distance themselves away from them after it became apparent just how much of a worthless and damaging band of waterheads they really are

Yes. It's been years, but without looking it up..

I believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty. Maker of heaven and Earth, of all things seen and unseen.

Is that it? There's more, but I'm blanking.
No, that's the Nicene Creed, isn't it? The Apostles Creed starts "I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of Heaven and Earth. I believe in Jesus Christ his only Son ..." etc etc. For my money, the Nicene Creed is better--more solemn--but Catholics use both in church, depending on the feast day. (Sauce: Catholic.)

I'm not surprised Trump didn't recite the Creed, though. I don't know if Presbyterians even do that, and frankly, Trump never struck me as a very religious guy. Not much of a gotcha, is it?

Catholicism is hardly obscure in the US, lol. 21% of Americans are Catholic, and it's the largest denomination in the US. Oh, and Melania is Catholic.

Honestly, I think it's weird that Trump didn't recite the creed with everyone else, though of course he may have valid personal reasons for not doing so. But yeah, the godless liberal sperging over it is hypocritical and hilarious.

The moron who wrote the article probably is mistaking it with the Lord's Prayer. That said if that is the case, the Presbyterian version of the Prayer is worded differently than the "normal" version. Debts and debtors instead of tresspasses and those who have tresspassed against us. So the rhythm to it is different and it makes the prayer sound like a mess if he were to do the version he knows and everyone else does the usual way.

Or at least thats why I don't do it in a mixed denominanation setting.

Or he gives no fucks, it is Trump afterall.

That doesn't change that it's not the majority nor the most visible. 46% of Americans are protestant and most media here that portrays Christians, from fundies and zealots to the normal guys, overwhelming uses Protestant sects. Not saying that Catholics aren't seen but when you think Christian here in the USA, your first thought probably isn't the Catholic Church.
Also, what does Melania being Catholic have to do with Trump not reciting the Apostles' Creed? She's his wife not his priest.

I think this is one of those moments where he felt more comfortable letting everyone else speak and didn't want to mess up saying the Apostles' Creed. Lord knows the media would have a field day with that. A least he can make excuses for not praying. The media would not let a gaff, even with something so minor, be washed away.

I mean, you can make all the excuses and justifications that you want, but Catholicism, particularly where Trump has spent the majority of his life (NYC!), is not rare or esoteric. And Melania would be familiar with and take no issue with the Creed if she's Catholic, no, lol? But she didn't say it, either. I'm just curious as to why they didn't, but we will never know and quite honestly it's none of my business. It should be respectful enough to bow one's head like he did, but of course the media is going to shit on him no matter what he does, just like they're doing now for not saying it.

Overall Obama's smug, self-satisfied smirk during the whole service was far worse.
