I'm nauseated but also intensely curious.

I got a wound, it got infected, maggots got put on to eat dead flesh. The medical term is maggot debridement therapy or larval therapy. The wound is wrapped up so they don't go out of you, and they don't eat living flesh, so they're not going to go in. The maggots are bred in a lab and are special sterile ones, so they don't cause any issues, and every few days they get replaced, so you're in no danger of having flies coming from you.

Bad things-

It smells fucking awful. Partly because your flesh is literally rotting and partly because maggots shit ammonia. It's only really noticeable when the dressing are being changes though.
You can feel them moving around inside you, it's weird, but ignorable. Unfortunately there's not much to do in hospital, so it's not easy to distract yourself.
I'm not bothered by bugs, but if you were I'd imagine it'd be terrible.

Good things-

It works. I didn't lose my leg, and the scar is barely noticeable now.

All in all, it's not as bad as you'd think it'd be from looking at it, but I still like freaking people out with the story.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled laughing at tumblr idiots.

Is mayonaise trypophobia? Also what is #clusters? Is that like trypophobia's dirty cousin, because I've seen everything tagged as that and it pretty much means nothing.

Yep. As far as I know, it's actually part of trypophobia. Like, people who get triggered by holes are also triggered by "clusters." Basically anything involving a series of circles.

Huh, I thought your bath bomb pic was going to be the one that I'd just capped, but no. Apparently bath bombs are very triggering.

I can think of one, maybe TWO instances for trypophobia to be tagged legitimately. MAYBE. And that's for some of the more medblr-related blogs who might post photos or scientific illustrations of skin conditions; and some Bioshock fandom posts since Infinite has an ability that makes giant holes appear in your skin like octopus suckers, which I think is pretty in-line with the actual definition of the phobia.

But you'd think these things would fall under a more generalized gore/blood-related tag thing. 'Course, science blogs just aren't that popular on Tumblr unless they're blogs promoting fake sociological statistics or historical revisionism of course, and Infinite's thankfully mostly escaped their notice (good lord can you imagine given all the racism in that game?), so I guess this hypersensitive shit of theirs is what they fall back on.

Because seriously, who fucking gets triggered by bubbles from a bath bomb?

It's not a real phobia. If it was people would be having panic attacks over everyday shit like Honeycomb cereal or loofah sponges.

Most of the stuff labelled "trypophobia" that is actually gross isn't even because of the holes - It's because you're looking at a photo of a bleeding, oozing skin graft on a burn victim; or botfly larvae burrowed an animal's neck. These are things that, naturally, disturb most humans.

If there's a subconscious aversion to clusters of holes, it's probably for the same reason humans instinctively know it's not a good idea to swim into areas where you can't see the bottom: There might be animals in there that will fuck you up.

I feel like something like this could be a real phobia in a certain sense; i.e. someone who could be so fearful of holes appearing in their skin they do weird irrational shit to prevent it like some mentally ill people do with delusions of theirs (think the tinfoil hat types). But again, that's a very SPECIFIC sort of situation and probably much more severe than the cases described here, so it's almost a certainty that it's not going to be tied to fearing bath bombs and beehives.
