I wonder if Verizon would even sell it to Pornhub after going through the trouble to rid the porn to save face. They might look hypocritical doing that, but they are a business and will do whatever the investors approve of. If they think Tumblr is an unsavable cesspool, they may not give a shit.

If the porn does come back, the remaining Tumblrinas will likely flock to Twitter, since Twitter has become an SJW hub and is a perfect place for their virtue signaling.

Can your source the part that says that? Because every time I hear that, it's always as a mandatory legal way of saying that you can't sue them for hosting your content that you upload to your account, which isn't the same as owning the content. Tumblr would also have to keep their policy separate from Pornhub itself.

This is the actual Terms of Service.

They're actually pretty well written as such things go, considering they're written by lawyers and nobody ever reads them. What a thankless job.

For clarity, you retain all of your ownership rights in your Content. However, by submitting Content to the Websites, you hereby grant the Websites a worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicenseable and transferable license to use, exploit, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, communicate, and perform the Content in connection with the Websites’s (and its successors’ and affiliates’) business, including without limitation for promoting and redistributing part or all of the Websites (and derivative works thereof) in any media formats and through any media channels. You also waive to the full extent permitted by law any and all claims against us related to moral rights in the Content. In no circumstances will we be liable to you for any exploitation of any Content that you post. They do not claim copyright on your uploads, but merely the license to use the material which, presumably, you actually want them to do otherwise you wouldn't have uploaded it in the first place.

So it would impact your rights to first publication and you might have a hard time selling copyrighted material that you already published, but Pornhub doesn't own it. You retain the actual copyright. You just would never be able subsequently to sell an exclusive license, since you already granted a non-exclusive license to another party.

Someone pointed out that Pornhub's TOS are very similar to the TOS that tumblr already has.

But people read "grant the website license to use" and the link to that twitter thread, and panicked, which means the post has upwards of 60,000 notes.

Not that I can read legalese either. But it does seem like the standard kind used for any of these file-sharing websites.

And I guess there's also the fact that Pornhub and tumblr are (and would be) two separate sites. So rather than tumblr becoming part of Pornhub, they'd just both be owned by the same parent company. Presumably the tumblr TOS would stay the same. Or, if they were for some reason changed to say "your queer subversive nudes belong to Pornhub now", then the users would be notified, and be able to take everything down before then.

PornHub's TOS doesn't appear to be different from the TOS of any other site, that is the "right to use, distribute, and reproduce" bits are just fancy legalese for "you're giving us permission to allow your work to show up in our search engine, the recommended bar, and for us to make previews/thumbnails in said search engines and recommendation lists" that pretty much any site that handles image or video hosting comes with. Tumblr's had similar mass hysteria incidents about the same TOS points over and over every year and never seem to learn.

Not that the TOS is the only issue Tumblrinas seem to have with PornHub. I've also seen a lot of REEEEing about the usual culprits like transphobia, racism, homophobia, sexism, etc. that's gotten enough people riled up to be against selling Tumblr to anyone period. That's probably the funniest thing about this to me: Tumblr's purity standards are so high that they've basically made it so they can't accept any solution that's not a nonexistent Woke Billionaire swooping in and keeping Tumblr alive completely out of pocket and personally paying each LGBTQIALMNOP user $100,000 a month; and that attitude is most likely going to be what kills Tumblr. They're so concerned about Tumblr being problematic that they don't realize that they've been smothering the website with a pillow, and when it finally shuts down they'll blame everyone but themselves.

Nothing but a waste of money. If they ain't bringing back the adult content, what's the point? This company was worth $1 billion dollars at one point, now they are selling it off for only a fraction of what they paid for it. I mean, it doesn't help that the website is broken to hell and back at this point thanks to the aforementioned porn ban. You can't even post a picture of a puppy without the porn filter blocking you from posting it, and more spambots than the actual cost of Tumblr itself shitting up your follower count and notes just isn't appealing to anyone, SJW or otherwise.
