You know, I "get" most drugs. Why someone starts them, or does them to the point of addiction.

Weed, Heroin, Cocaine, Bath Salts, Booze, I get these. I understand why most would do these.

I do not "get" Meth.

It's a drug made from the crap in road flares, several industrial solvents, some over-the-counter drugs, and a host of hazardous chemicals. The manufacture of it generates a number of caustic and poisonous substances, inhaling the fumes of which can be fatal. Just proximity to the manufacturing by-products can induce nightmarish health problems.

I do not understand why someone would do this shit.

Cocaine is partly made with gasoline (also dont use it while drinking booze) and most Illegal marijuana is thouroughly contaminated with illegal pesticides that isnt safe for human consumption (legal weed is much safer in that regard because of oversight for consumer safety)

Words fail me. If I had teenaged kids, they would NOT be getting on Tumblr. Like I said in the Nick Bate thread, our society's tendency to overshare online has a positive effect as it can help the authorities spot the dangerous people more easily.

I don't know much about meth either, but one thought just hit me. Remember that HUGE stash of "white crystal" we saw a few pages ago? Rough street value of $25k?

That looks a lot like a quartz pillar, or a really well done rock-candy crystal set.

I'm definitely gonna assume some of the tweaker guys are using quartz or similar garbage to get girls more interested. One guy actually had an image comparing quartz to his stash, commenting on how indistinguishable they were. What really strikes me as odd is how these amateur meth cooks manage to create such a large amount in what I assume to be their own homes. Assuming of course that crystalline structure is methamphetamine and that it actually weighs 310g, that would mean they somehow got their hands on about 30 pounds of pseudoephedrine, which is night impossible considering all pharmacies are required to monitor the sales of anything containing opiates, pseudoephedrine, etc.

Not only that, but the other things needed to cook meth - lithium from batteries, phosphorous from matchboxes, acetone, drain cleaner, and so much more - are also monitored; keep in mind this just means people keep an eye out for all these things bought at once at the same location. Now, if I remember my high school chemistry well enough, the smallest yield of methamphetamine you can get with the smallest amount of ingredients doesn't even equal one gram. Now, using an entire stock of that shit will yield you about thirty grams in a home lab. The most popular method of cooking meth - the shake and bake method - will yield about 11 grams when you're done cooking.

Keep in mind here, I'm not familiar with the process it takes to cook meth outside of what I saw on Breaking Bad and Drugs, Inc., but there's no fucking way anyone can make a pillar of meth like that. That would mean the liquid meth is set to harden inside of a cylindrical container, and because liquid takes the shape of the container and the container is likely to be glass or pyrex, there's no fucking way you can get a pillar of meth without breaking all of it.

So yeah. That's more than likely quartz. Hell, it could even be salt, but it's not meth.

Agreed, there's no way those "giant stash of meth" photos are meth. The meth smoke photos are also very likely fake. When you smoke meth, almost no smoke is exhaled, and certainly not big billowing tobacco-style clouds like that.

The meth smoke photos are also very likely fake. When you smoke meth, almost no smoke is exhaled, and certainly not big billowing tobacco-style clouds like that.

Well, people do manufacture meth in these quantities. I'm just wondering what possible manufacturing method would lead to an enormous crystal like that. I share your skepticism.

Incidentally, that amount of meth would be a mandatory minimum of 10 years.

For everybody worrying that this is rampant on Tumblr, keep in mind a lot of these blogs are isolated to their own little sub-communities, and there are millions of blogs on the site. You could probably use Tumblr and never once run across any of the lifting, pro-ana or meth blogs, especially if you're there for like, Harry Potter fandom stuff or whatever. You see what the people you follow reblog, so unless somebody you follow suddenly gets into meth, you won't ever see it.

That being said, because a lot of these communities are isolated, they provide a convenient echo-chamber for those who are in those circles and it only helps to cement these ideas they have about being totally in control about their drug use. I suspect a lot of these users were already using meth when they got into these communities in the first place, and were just seeking out those who also used.

Just my two cents.

That makes sense. They live in online communes where normal people can't reach them and tell them that using meth is bad for their health.

I get the impression that the tweekers in question are new to the meth game considering that they don't look too fucked up in the pictures they post. That and most of their living situations seem comfortable enough for them to gloat about it on the internet. If these were long-time users they would look all scabbed up and they'd probably have sold their laptops months ago to buy more meth.
