Turn off "thanks" displayed in posts? -

Hi, is there a way of turning off the "The following have taken this post under great considerations" under each post, so that I don't see which posts are "thanked" and which ones aren't? Because most of the times I end up skipping or half-reading the posts which have no thanks and directing my attention towards those who do, which I don't believe is the intended purpose of this feature. And I suspect I'm not the only one who does this, which detracts from the forum as an experience, as you should judge a post by its contents and not its poster or by the amount of "thanks" it has.

That kind of seems like something that would be easy enough for you to take care of yourself by, y'know, just reading the non-thanked posts, doesn't it?

You're expecting everyone on this forum to spit out a witty/clever/what have you post on every single thread in order to warrant your attention for all of the five seconds it would take to read the few sentences they strung together? Rather than just... I don't know... reading all the posts in the thread like someone who's not a sperg would do?

I see what OP is getting at, I think they don't want to be influenced by who's been thanked when reading threads and recognizes that there might be good posts that don't get thanked for whatever reason. Plus people use the thank feature differently and as a result, someone might get a lot of thanks because they say some zinger but it's not very insightful. I think though it's worth noting that it seems to be doing a decent job of encouraging good posts for the most part (there are some exceptions, I've seen people get a lot of thanks because they A-Loggy statements) and so it's one of those things you have to take the good with the bad.

I swore there was some option for users to not display it, I'll have to play around and see if I find anything.

In any case, I admit that the thanks system has flaws but like I said, you have to take the good with the bad.

I dunno OP, I just exercise self control and my own personal judgement regarding what posts to read and why.

I guess the only problem I see is it takes up some space, like when some one says "Chris is dumb" and it gets like 3 lines of thanks, but it's not really a big deal. Sorry to disagree with OP

What you posted is exactly the opposite of what I wrote in the opening post, so I'm not even remotely sure how you could possibly make that leap of logic. I don't want everyone to "spit out a witty post" to warrant my attention, and it is exactly because of that reason that I made this thread. If that were the case, then all those witty posts would get thanks, which would make me read them, while the non-witty posts would probably go unnoticed. That is what I don't want, because it (subconsciously) encourages people to always post witty posts/popular opinions in order to get thanks, and not to post dissenting or unpopular opinions. Of course, this wouldn't stop happening even if the option to disable "thanks" was indeed implemented, but I'm certain that those users who did disable it would browse the forums in a slightly different (in my case better) way than those who didn't.

Champthom, thank you for your response. It does encourage good posts, I agree with you there, which is why I'm not asking for the feature to be removed. However, much like signatures and avatars, some people might dislike seeing them, which is why most forums come with the option to disable those features, but there's no option to disable the "thanks" in this case, which is why I made this thread, to see if it was indeed possible to do it. It wouldn't affect anyone else after all, it would just be an extra option to improve the browsing experience of some people.

To the rest of people saying "well just ignore that!", thanks for responding, but that is the point I'm trying to make. Of course I can try to ignore it, but it would improve my (and probably some other people's) experience if I didn't have to exercise self control on a forum I read for fun.
Isn't that what suggestions are for in this forum, to suggest ways of making the forum a more pleasant place to read? Especially considering that, unlike the removal of signatures for example, this would only affect those who choose to be affected.
