I remember when I was a kid, when everyone had dial up, and Youtube didn't exist. Me and my friends would wonder what Dragon Ball GT would be like, before it came to the U.S. But it took so long to come over that when it finally did we were all, yeah cool DBGT, when before that we would have went crazy over it. Now with the internet, every anime is either really easy to find fan subbed or streamed legally. Now when I'm looking for an anime to watch I am literally overwhelmed with how many tons of options there are. When we didn't have Youtube and Streaming though, things were cool though because people who watched anime were all pretty much watching the same things, pretty much. Also there were so many channels that played Anime. Anyone remember the Anime that got played on Encore? I thought about making this thread when I was looking though an Animerica mag I have from 2003, there is a guide to all the anime that was on Tv at the time, I know you could argue that things are better now, but I kinda miss watching Adult Swim and Toonami, and I don't mean their current incarnations. LOL I remember in 6th grade the popular kids laughed at me for watching Adult Swim, now all the douche bag jocks watch Adult Swim. I know Tv itself is changing though, I just wanna talk about what I used to watch. Also in my opinion Comedy Central, and what used to be G4 were better then too. Cartoon Network, G4 Tech Tv, and Comedy Central were the 3 main channels I watched.

Of course before all those things I mentioned, I watched old school, Fox Kids, and Nickolodeon. Also with this thread, I want to here what non U.S-ers watched when they were younger.

I remember when there used to be weekly movies on TV. And they were mostly theatrical releases (nice and censored for prime time)! There were made-for-TV movies too.

This seems like the right place. So, I find tornadoes interesting. Pretty much always have ever since a near encounter with one on the South Dakota freeway (no joke), which was years before Twister came out and suddenly half my classmates decided they wanted to be storm chasers too. But Twister got the ball rolling for these three made-for-TV movies.

Tornado!-I'll mention this one first because obvious Twister ripoff. As in, this movie premiered on TV around the same time it was released in theaters, so somebody had been dumpster diving for discarded scripts. Whatever people say about Twister, it's infinitely more tolerable (and interesting) than Tornado!. Features a climax in which the main characters run out of the center of an F-5 tornado back into what are supposed to be nearly 300 mph winds in order to get into a storm cellar. And don't even get a scratch, let alone sucked away. But the old dude is sucked away and killed a few seconds later. I could sperg about this movie for a while due to it's awfulness, and inaccuracies. At least it doesn't involve a highway overpass though (but probably only because Twister didn't).

Night of the Twisters-TV movie based off of a children's novel that's a fictional account of a real event, the 1980 Grand Island tornado outbreak (the book was OK for what it is, at least for an elementary school-aged kid). Unlike the book, the movie is not based on any real tornado outbreak (possibly because the movie was filmed in Canada during the fall) and is actually a significant departure from the book. One change involved was the main character's biological father is now dead and his father is really his step-father. The movie presents this as a huge revelation when he tells his friends this. However, his friends had moved to Nebraska only a year prior so why the fuck is it a big deal? Also, step-dad is a major jerk when he forces the main character to drag his bike across the finish line in a race right after it had been wrecked in an accident. But the movie presents it as a good "never give up" moral for use at the end of the movie (which I won't get into since it's really stupid). I could sperg about this movie's inaccuracies a lot more (This movie does feature a highway overpass), but I don't feel like it (and this post is already in tl;dr territory anyways, lol).

Storm Chasers: Revenge of the Twister (I think it's what it was called)-One of my parents recorded this on tape for me to watch the next day. Though not a ripoff, it was definitely created due to Twister's success. I remember this thing to be really, really stupid. Something about the eeeeeevil government-funded plant/factory/whatever somehow fucks with the weather and induces tornadoes. Also another climax featuring a highway overpass, that's really the only other thing I remember.

In spite of the fact that I mostly grew up in the early 2000s, I still consider myself a '90s kid. I wasn't around when they were current, but Rocko's Modern Life, Ren and Stimpy, Doug, Angry Beavers, Hey Arnold!, The Adventures of Pete and Pete and KaBlam! were still in popular syndication during my time and they are just as much a part of my childhood memories as is Spongebob and Pizza Hut*. I also remember the Friday night Goosebumps movies, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, All That, Figure It Out (I had a crush on Summer Sanders), Slime Time Live (which I remember hating with a passion), Rugrats, Invader Zim, CatDog and The Amanda Show.

On my way out, Nick began airing crap like Pelswick, My Life As a Teenage Robot (which I now remember as A-Log's fap fodder), All Grown Up and Drake & Josh.

I was never a Disney kid, and I didn't watch Cartoon Network too much, although Courage the Cowardly Dog and Johnny Bravo remain favourites of mine. Power Puff Girls wasn't too bad either.

*And I list Pizza Hut here because - I don't know about anybody else - but I haven't seen one in a long time, haven't heard anyone talk about it, and the last time I ate it was over 10 years ago and it tasted like crap, so it's ancient to me.

Comedy central used to be better to, they had, Crank Yankers, Chapelles Show, Comedy Central Presents, and in my opinion South Park was better then, that's not to say they don't still make good episodes though. G4 Tech Tv, oh man I remember watching old X Play, Judgement Day, Unscrewed with Martin Seargent, and they had anime too. Adult Swim had really good comedic shows too, like Harvey Dirdban, The Brak show, and Home Movies.

I was a fan of the Disney Channel, but it was a lot different in the late 80's and early 90's. They aired a lot of their movies, commercial-free, and played the classic shorts all the time, in addition to their new TV shows (DuckTales :heart-full:) and older ones (I liked to secretly stay up late in order to watch Zorro). But then they began to basically copy Nick later in the decade and the old shorts and most of their TV shows got the boot to make way for their new live-action preteen TV series.

I was a big fan of Nick as well, at least pre-2000. I loved the classic Rugrats episodes, but as soon as episodes featuring Dil began to air I hated the series because nothing happened anymore. Oh well. I also loved Rocko's Modern Life, Angry Beavers, and I seem to be one of the very few Invader Zim fans on here.

I'm not ashamed to admit I watched so much Hey Arnold that I have encyclopedic knowledge of it. :asperchu:
I pretty much grew up alongside of what's considered the "golden age" of Nickelodeon, so I consider myself pretty lucky because after 2000 or so, Nickelodeon went through an awkward phase and then just lost its shit completely. I don't think that's just me being older now, their shows just aren't organic anymore.

I remember when MTV actually played music

Growing up I primarily watched Cartoon Network because it was still airing the 90's shows in syndication, alongside DBZ and Pokémon, I still watched Nick for the original Nicktoons, I watched Jetix for Spiderman: TAS (Yes, I liked the 90's Spiderman cartoon) I watched Boomerang for Tom and Jerry, The Looney Tunes and classic Hanna-Barbera, I watched Sky for The Simpsons and the original run of Futurama, I also watched older game shows like UK Gladiators, Takeshi's Castle (MXC in the US) and Robot Wars (still one of my favourite childhood shows ever)

I remember when the history channel showed actual history documentaries made by professional historians

I remember when watching an animal planet show which dealt with bullshit cryptids (i.e. bigfoot and co) was an amusing rarity once a week or so.

I remember disney channel being as shit then as it is now

I remember watching a conan cartoon from age 3 to 7

I watched all of those too, except I live in the U.S so, when I was like 13 or so, at this summer Church thing I went to, we would all watch American Gladiators, which I'm guessing was pretty much the same. Apparently they brought it back a few years ago, for a short while, I didn't catch the new one though.

Good Ole Nickelodeon. Grew up watching Rugrats, Doug, all that jazz. But hey, this thread seems like the perfect place to post this and see if I'm crazy or what...

Does anyone remember this kid’s show? It was called Candle Cove and I must have been 6 or 7. I never found reference to it anywhere so I think it was on a local station around 1971 or 1972. I lived in Ironton at the time. I don’t remember which station, but I do remember it was on at a weird time, like 4:00 PM.

I couldn't resist. :tomgirl:

When I was a kid, there was a public access show where they would read sections of children's books like Half-Magic and The TV Kid and The Toothpaste Millionaire (books which I'm not even sure kids read anymore because this was the early/mid-80s) while an illustrator drew the scene in either in either conte crayon or oil pastel. It's incredibly tame, but I loved that show and I always begged to go to the library and check out whatever book he was drawing, which was probably the whole point of the show existing. I can't remember either the name of the show or the artist, but I wish I could find some video.

My childhood was mostly the early 2000s, and I didn't have much contact with 90s culture, but I remember watching Hey Arnold! and Rocko's Modern Life (it's weird saying those in their original English names, they were either translated to Portuguese or had a small change to it.)

Then there were other stuff that I kept watching when I got older, around 2003-2007, that were pretty cool back then. I won't list them though, you can find them in the Getting to know another thread.

You guys heard of Jetix? That was my favorite cartoon channel. I got true pissed off when they changed to Disney XD. Fuck that.

Histeria! was one of the greatest and most underrated cartoons of the 90s.

The Ken Burns' Civil War-based is probably one of the greatest, most dead-on parodies ever made for a cartoon.
