Their choices were likely to either 1) ban it, or 2) listen to people calling them out on their hypocrisy ad nauseum for banning insults but not this one really obvious insult that one side likes. Plus banning it lets them pretend to be impartial, while probably being more lax in enforcement for some terms than others.

The festering rot isn't just affecting Silicon Valley, it's affecting all of society and it's all because too many people can't simply tell an asshole to fuck off if they have the right skin color or gender.

I know the rot's much more societally widespread, it's just that Twitch is finally starting to piss its userbase off enough. Unfortunately, the only competitor is YouTube Gaming, which is hardly any better of an alternative. So as it stands, they can get away with this trigger word banhammering with impunity.
