Climate change and the articles about it were never actually meant to address the situation (outside of a few niche cases which point out viable solutions, ie, nuclear, hydroelectric (in some places), shoveling the morbidly obese into furnaces, etc.), it was only meant to further the divide between left and right.
Not to mention taking attention away from actual, environmental problems. I refuse to believe it's a coincidence that all of the Millionaire Priests who push climate change like it's a religion just happen to also live in monstrous mansions and go jet-setting around the world in private planes that single-handedly emit more carbon in a single trip than most people will emit in the duration of their lives. I also refuse to believe it's a coincidence that at the same time Climate Change began working its way into the common nomenclature, all of the issues that environmentalists used to espouse suddenly took such a back seat that in some cases I've gone years without hearing about them.

When was the last time you saw these people banging their hands on a table to protest deforestation in the Amazon, or Japan's whaling industry, or the hole in the O-Zone layer, or even much smaller-scale things like that "be sure and clip the plastic rings on your 6-pack so turtles don't get caught in them" campaign. I can't help but notice that over the years all of these environmentalist talking points about recycling and planting trees and reducing pollution suddenly began to be replaced by the incessant droning of "climate change", which in itself is an empty statement.

It's too vague for anyone to care about it. It doesn't mean anything because it means everything and anything that it threatens to cause is so far away that your average person just can't bring themselves to give a shit, especially after being told for the last 40 years that Florida's supposed to be underwater and all of the polar ice caps should be gone. Pollution you can measure, deforestation you can measure, you can see it. People can care about it. I never see climate change activists ever talking about it, though.

What I do see are those same activists and Millionaire Priests sitting around in air-conditioned rooms, hammering away on their iPhones while they slam down Starbucks and spend large swathes of their day going cruising around the world in private jets to tell the rest of the world to give up their luxuries before heading back to their mansions on a private yacht. It makes me somewhat dubious and I'd much rather see people focusing on smaller, more-practical environmental problems and solutions rather than watch everyone beat their faces against the Climate Change wall for another 20 years.

Everyone keeps harping about thorium. How feasible is this or is this a pipe dream shit like wind and solar
The answer is that, the physics is there, and theoretically we'd be getting better power yields and less waste per ton of thorium than we would per ton of uranium. The basic principle is that Thorium is barely radioactive, so a little bit of a 'helper' material (such as plutonium) is used to help make the thorium release radiation, which then heats water, which drives a turbine, etc, etc. The problem currently lies in the material science of what we put that (probably liquid) thorium in, and how we make it.

Even though Thorium is less radioactive (and therefore less dangerous) than uranium, it still carries the 'nuclear' stigma, and funding for it is basically nonexistent.

My belief is that these Millionaire Priests see us as an AGGREGATE problem. You see there are a handful of them and millions of people like you and me. In their minds this equates with that they could and should consume as much as they want and it’s the rest of us that should either go live like hobos or even better fuck off and die.

Good. The weak should fear the strong.

My man we haven't even characterized most of the species living in the dirt in your backyard. We're not close to needing to scrape the bottom of the barrel that is isolated Mayan cave systems to get novel gene products. People just do it because it's cool and sexy and gets funding and pays for a vacation.

I mean por que no los dos?

Possible cure for cancer, Alzheimer’s, and longevity good?
That's the environmentalist version of "what about the children? Can't you THINK OF THE CHILDREN!?" excuse.... heard it a million times.... "But what if one of them is the cure for cancer, AIDS, Alzheimers and can finally allow us to develop a fat-free potato chip that tastes GOOD... ALL IN ONE?!‽ We'll NEVER KNOW!!!!"

Call it cynicism if you wish, or pessimism, but I"m not QUITE that optimistic that the biological secret to longer-lasting-lightbulbs is always just ever-so-conveniently RIGHT were I want to dig a hole.... they said the same thing about rainforests, even made a movie about it.... and like the dire warnings that we'd be underwater by now made back in the 70's ... the fact they always present the worst possible case as inevitable does more damage every single time.... just say "I'd rather keep biodiversity high" and I'd support you much more eagerly than when you say "You just crushed a bug that MIGHT have known how to solve world hunger forever!"

Hahaha, you need to update your playbook. This is so 2001.

In the meantime, those statistics have been dissected backwards and forwards and shown to be bullshit based on other bullshit taken out of context.

Also, 2 of your links are from the same wikipedia article. Come the fuck on...

Well... the earth is getting warmer, yeah, the data shows a pretty darn clear trend.
CO2 doesn't "emit energy" but it seems to act as an insulator, or a "greenhouse gas" in that it reflects back more sunlight back to earth than it blocks from reaching the earth.

Yeah, the very basic facts like that are true and easy to check yourself. And it's good to do so, so you don't sound like an idiot when you bring a snowball to the senate floor to prove there's no such thing as global warming...

As for the rest, usually a scientific theory has to make more than 0 successful predictions for people to take it very seriously. Global warming theory is sitting at 0. (Unless you want to give them 1 for saying "It will get warmer" but anyone who can extrapolate a trend line would say that)

The doomsday shit is completely unsupported. In fact, most of that comes from UN spokespeople and the "Climate Scientists" often complain their research is misrepresented.

Global Lukewarming is a theory that's gaining a lot of ground, basically, yeah, the warming pattern will continue, but overall it will not be very negative, maybe even positive, but most importantly, the efforts to prevent it would cause more deaths than just dealing with it.

There's a lot of fascinating shit to read on the subject, unfortunately it's politicized and of course doomsday predictions are more interesting than "Everything will be fine" predictions.
I recommend finding Jim Steele's videos as he points out many environmental "catastrophes" can be fixed with a little local effort. I know a climate scientist is serious when they say "can we fix this zip code before trying to fix the world."

Plus it bugs me that a lot of this doom saying has turned efforts to fix real, local problems into "cry wolf" situations.

Not to mention, have you noticed over the years that no matter the environmental problem, the solution always seems to be the same? More government, more socialism...

What's the purpose of sabotaging efforts to preserve the natural environment in this way though? It seems unlikely that they're cackling Captain Planet villains. Unless it's an elaborate plot by the oil, mining and logging industries to discredit their own critics using pied pipers or just charity scammers trying to keep their grift running in perpetuity I don't see a motivation. It sounds more like virtue signalling for rich people who are just smart enough to realize that fanning the flames of idpol will get themselves burned too, but are just lazy enough not to target something more concrete. Perhaps keeping it vague allows one to ego-trip by pretending to have accessed the levers which make the world go round.

This article seems to be less about climate change and more about loggers and whatnot encroaching on habitats and such, which should be regulated and heavily.
Spotted. Owl.
The USFS spent the better part of a century learning how to manage western forests. Then some cocksuckers decided a bird was a rare and endangered species and leveraged the ESA not only to decimate timber contracts in what was thought to be it's habitat but was a major fundraising cause to appoint fellow-travelers to management positions that heavily restricted all contracts on public lands.

So here we are 30-odd years later, on fire, with mismanaged diseased forests, and wrecked local economies and with heavier restrictions on the horizon on public land use (the Bundy Ranch people were nuts, but they did have a point). And the bird, did we save it? Well no. Turns out all of the "science" gathered about it was flawed about it's habitat, numbers, and decline.
The Endangered Species Act is so butt-fucking corrupt that real estate and any big corp needing land for their strip malls abuses the system. You can guess who is displeased that the regs are stripped down. You can't win this fucking game no matter what you do.
The fact that you can take any infrastructure project and either delay it indefinitely or close it outright if you have the right lawyers and a suitably sized warchest means it is going to be abused. Sometimes to be seen "fighting" a cause to gin up donations to an activist group, sometimes to get those poll number up in an election year (cough keystone XL cough), sometimes to force contractors to hire "consultancy" firms, sometimes to halt the growth of a competitor, etc etc etc. You know what these things rarely do? Protect species or habitats. The right palms are greased. The right people make the decision. The market changes in the favor of an alternative. Then the same shit gets done or it gets NIMBY'd to somewhere else and just as bad or worse mess gets made somewhere else.

Bringing up the Keystone XL thing again. BNSF laughed all the way to the bank about what a disaster that was. Ditto Gulf oil drillers. And Texas oil companies. And the Saudi/Venezuelan ones. It kept that cheap Bakken crude out of their market and ensured that it will be more expensive for the foreseeable future. What did it save? Nothing really. The Keystone Not-XL pipeline runs parallel over the same aquifers rivers lakes and such. The whole place is criss-crossed with pipelines and rail lines hauling crude. It was never about the environment. It was about who gets what.

Well it's not like any of that is wrong.

Also water vapor is more effective at trapping heat than CO2.

Much of it is more "I don't want protests on my front lawn because I require an entire coal fired power plant to power my home, so instead let's get them freebies focused on... A new tax! A carbon tax.

Now the rich can buy away the guilt, and point to those evil politicians.

Coal and oil are finite resources and we're going to run out of them eventually, and I'd rather not fuck over our future generations by denying them power, so renewables and extremely long lasting fuel sources (IE: Thorium, Uranium, stupidity), should be used instead in order to create a more long-term global energy environment.
Nuclear options would be preferable, but there are probly enough liquid hydrocarbons on Titan to power humanity for millennia.
