Setting and characters are one thing, but how they're handled is a pretty significant factor. WD2 has an autistic character but other than his behavioural tics no attention is brought to it - compare that to Wolfenstein 2 and its Sassy Black Woman lecturing a white woman about how they lived in safety and comfort without fear of racism.

I use the old way of telling pornography from erotica. "I know it when I see it". This does lead to false positives (I dismissed Watchdogs 2 as woke), but it's more accurate than trying to list every possibly criteria.

Plus, you don't want to end up with something like the Bechdel test. A supposed test to see if a film is feminist with a simple rule. "Do two named female characters talk about something other than a man?" Many feminist films and woke favourites fail the test, while many "sexist" films, games, and even fanservice anime pass the test.

Pushing agenda above everything else. You care about the message or subtext of your movie more than telling a story, you care about pushing your politics or showing off your politics vs making an engaging game.

If you're comparing Watch Dogs 2 to something like the Last of Us 2, sorry, I disagree. One is a game, the other is a product of current year diarrhea.

this game sounds like a reworked version of the never eleased Rainbox Six Patriots I mean Patriots had a similar setting but there it was right wing militas in the US. nowadays bLM/Antifa makes more sense with the difference that most antifa would drop dead on the first sight of the Rainbow team

Well, you can, but it tends to make the game go over like an incredibly loud wet fart at a fancy dinner party. Case in point, Sunset:
"This shit's so pretentious it just gave me a fuckin' film school degree" is pretty much the absolute distillation of woke gameplay.

It may be me not conveying the joke correctly: due to brain worms, boring as all shit gameplay is what happens when one gets too woke; the desire for showcasing pseudointellectual horseshit runs rampant and makes the developer want to preach rather than entertain. Being unforgivably boring isn't a problem solely limited to these games, but the more woke it gets, the more the gameplay suffers.

I agree actually. After some blunders with Assassin's Creed they stepped back, re-assessed why other triple-A devs are fucking up, and checked themselves a bit. The last two Assassin's Creed games were really good. Ubisoft knows to at least get the base gameplay down right, you may do the same things over and over but gosh darn it I'm enjoying it.

Never mind that it greatly improved from the first game with combat, traversal and freedom. Story and tone, eh you can say it conflicted with the gameplay loop.

I noticed that it seems they've been deliberately erring more on the side of fun gameplay. That's why Watch Dogs 2 lets you act like you're in GTA despite the entirely different tone--because it's fun. Good lord I hated everyone in that game though. Fun being able to live out some... fantasies... in San Fran, though, if you get my drift.

Surprisedly, I've killed less people in Watch Dogs 2 than GTA. I'd argue it's more engaging than GTA V. The phone can be used to take photos, and there are landmarks you can photograph for "followers." They've recreated Southern California quite well. Sometimes, you'd just have fun driving around and discovering the world organically.
