Every year in Britain, round about this time, something eye-wateringly amazing happens. With plenty of pomp, glamour, ceremony and an outburst by the MP Dennis "Beast of Bolsover" Skinner, the Queen marches into the House of Lords (that's equivalent to the Senate for you Americans) and monotonously announces whatever dreaded schemes the government have got lined up for the British electorate, so they can despair even further at the monster they created!

These are the following Bills that have been newly introduced or carried over from the previous year:

NEWLY INTRODUCED

Digital Economy Bill
Modern Transport Bill
Neighbourhood Planning and Infrastructure Bill (Eng & Wales)
Local Growth and Jobs Bill (Eng)
Better Markets Bill
Bus Services Bill (Eng)
NHS Overseas Visitors Charging Bill
Pensions Bill
Children and Social Work Bill (Eng)
Education for All Bill (Eng)
Wales Bill (Wales)
Cultural Property Bill
Intellectual Property Bill
Draft Law of Property Bill
Criminal Finances Bill
Counter-extremism and Safe-guarding Bill (Eng & Wales)
Small Charitable Donations Bill
Lifetime Savings Bill
National Citizen Service Bill
Prison and Courts Reform Bill (Eng & Wales)
Higher Education and Research Bill (Eng)

CARRIED OVER FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR

High Speed Rail Bill
Investigatory Powers Bill
Policing and Crime Bill

SOON TO COME...

Bill of Rights (to replace the Human Rights Act)
Soft Drinks Industry Levy (will be included in the Finance Bill next year)

I currently can't be arsed to put the details about them here, since there's so much of it. You can simply look them up for yourself using the names of the Bills I've just mentioned if you wish.

Have a nice day!

The intellectual property bill should be interesting, uk and eu law is currently at juggerheads there. But really this year will be dominated by the referendum in june and the fallout, actual answer notwithstanding.

High speed rail bill likewise comes after Lord Hope blasted the ECJ as going beyond construing and actively inventing.

And of course the bill of rights will open a massive can of worms should we vote remain as membership of the echr is mandatory for eu nations yet some of its decisions have been frankly bonkers.

I'm curious as to what the UK bill of rights entails. Considering what is considered "rights" in modern society, I don't see positive things.

'High speed rail bill'. Oh yes, Britain is very dedicated to high speed rails. Too bad the only cargo they carry is million-dollar lemons.

What I take issue with here is the Digital Economy Bill, which advocates banning porn sites for people over the age of 18. Seriously, what the living fuck? 16-year olds can have sex but not watch anything related to it?! That's not counting having to force the restriction on porn sites which are outside the UK, and that would bring worse problems of its own kind. Essentially, the Conservatives would have to become the Chinese gov incarnate.

I would expect the basics of what is in the current echr (which is really a product of english law) but with an atrophied right to family life that has caused so much trouble with immigration and deportation.

Essentially something more similiar to tge australian or canadian versions than the very european character the echr has developed into.
