Russia’s defense industry imploded after the collapse of the USSR. They lost the T-80 factories and the T-90 is just an improved T-72 - same design flaws and the Armata is fucking vaporware. On the naval side of things it’s even worse for the Russians, and in the air even worse than that. The Su-27 is a perfectly good fighter but it just can’t compete with the F-22 or F-35. The MiG-29 is also in a similar position. They have what, 20 of their new stealth plane that doesn’t even have fucking S-ducts meaning that radar signature wise they’ll light up like Christmas trees from the front.

The much vaunted air defense systems they’re relying on got yeeted by drones in Armenia and Libya, and dunked on by F-35’s in Syria.

A couple of 100s of kilograms of explosive on key targets can do infrastructure harm. Similar how Iran could just spam US bases in the Gulf area or the North Koreans have Artillery aimed at the South.

I think Americans can use cruise missiles in this "cheap" conventional anti strategic target way as well.

Which is why once the Kola Peninsula defense network goes, that’s basically it for the Russians. They can’t hit the CBG’s effectively there, don’t really have the inventory or range to hit Keflavik or all the Norwegian bases, and without resorting to nuclear attacks can’t stop the BUFF’s, Lancers, and Spirits coming up from CONUS over the North Pole to deliver presents. It’s incredibly hard to stop an attacker that can cripple your deployments with impunity from the sky.

Airbase damage can be repaired pretty fast though, so more likely US strikes will target C3 infrastructure and industrial repair facilities. The Russian inventory has a fuckload of old tanks in storage but T-62’s aren’t exactly going to stand up well in a modern conflict with NATO forces.
