I couldn't get into Elfen Lied escpecially when it keeps beating me over the head with its "HUMANS ARE THE REAL MONSTERS" message like a brick.

Paul Blart Mall-Cop 2 is best anime.
Astro Boy is fucking amazing (at least the manga, but I liked the 2000s series quite a bit)
Wrong, faget.

I don't think anime belongs in the trash.
I gave you a like because I don't have "Drink". I've been wondering, who is that guy anyway?

I'm kinda with you on this one. The original Hellsing is just so bland compared to the manga/Ultimate. I do like that they give Seras a bigger narrative focus and more screen time for the Valentine brothers, but that's really where the good points end. Incognito does not at all have the same charisma and fun the Major had and I simply waited for Alucard to just kick his ass already. My biggest gripe is what they did with my favorite character in Ultimate: Alexander Anderson. His rivalry with Alucard was such a big focus in Ultimate and as time went on, they develop a sort of respect for each other that Alucard truly hoped that Anderson would finally be the one to kill him for good, so much so that he was so angry when Anderson used Helena's Nail on himself to become a monster and actually cried when he had to kill him. You see none of this in the TV series, Anderson is basically just some crazed killer obsessed with Alucard for no reason at all. Even in Ultimate, despite his desire to kill Alucard, Anderson is still shown to be a very calm person and devout Catholic who cares deeply about children, very different from the psycho assassin in the original.
I get what you're saying about Anderson, but honestly, the only problem I have with the original is how Incognito was such a piss-poor villain. Helena's character really intrigued me, and I love the episode where we see Alucard and Integra's past. The former's rage and concern when he finds out that his master has been hurt is such a great moment, especially when he later tells her "You will always be that same little girl to me." I wish people could appreciate both versions of the anime.

The last time I really got into an anime was Madoka Magica. And good luck getting me into the newer animes, particularly stuff like Attack on Titan with all of the hype/sperging around it. I felt like a fish out of water at the last anime convention I attended this year...I must be growing up and out of anime.

I didn't really think Cowboy Bebop was as great as everyone says it is. It was good don't get me wrong, but I was kinda hoping for a large overarching plot instead of a bunch of self contained episodes featuring characters that only appear once and are never mentioned again.

Also, I kinda felt Vicious was underdeveloped as a villain.

At least the main characters were cool. Although Edward can be kinda annoying at times.

I actually felt the American Speed Racer movie was pretty great. A lot of people shoot it down really fast because it's an American animu movie so that automatically makes it bad or something, when I felt it was actually an interesting take on the original source material that didn't diverge in a negative way. It's definitely not the worst American adaptation of a Japanese series.

I hate Goku, I wish Toriyama was more successful in writing him out like he kept trying to. He's a shitty fucking person and generally uninteresting as well as a huge Gary Stu. He's easily one of my least favorite characters in DBZ but everybody loves him for some unknown reason, even characters in the show who are supposed to hate him end up liking him. Why? He's flaky, he's a horrible friend and parent and constantly puts other people in danger for idiotic and selfish reasons.
I don't really get Miyazaki films.. I have seen 3? 4? of them and I thought they were fine but I wouldn't go out of my way to praise them.

I really wish Toriyama went with his original idea of having Goku stay dead after the Cell saga and make Gohan the main character. They already mentioned many times that Gohan is much more powerful than Goku will ever be. When Goku comes back, Gohan's character is completely ruined with the Great Saiyaman and his failure in beating Majin Buu despite training with A FUCKING GOD (and now we have Goku doing the same thing and rising to greater power than ever before). Vegeta is shown in training much more often than Goku, to the point of obsession, and he still gets the short end of the stick. Piccolo fused with both Namek's greatest warrior and Kami and he's still weaker than Goku. If you want everything that's wrong with Goku's character in a nutshell, just look at Dragon Ball GT. And this is all coming from a guy who actually LIKES Goku.

It really annoys me that Vegeta gets the short end of the stick. He's an extremely popular character, which is the justification for a lot of the bullshit with Goku. IIRC Toriyama personally doesn't like Vegeta? Idk.
Vegeta gets the most character development in the series which is another problem with Goku, who has almost none. Granted, I haven't watched DB in a long time but I can easily think of how Bulma, Krillin and maybe even Yamcha develop and mature as characters from DB to DBZ. I really don't see much of a difference between kid Goku and adult Goku. I haven't seen GT and mostly pretend it doesn't exist but doesn't ChiChi say as much there too? What else happens? And yeah, 20 years later and Battle of the Gods is the biggest Goku worship fest yet (don't get me wrong, I still liked it)
I think a lot of the same complaints could be made about Kirito from SAO, being overpowered and all but I like him ok.

I like Cowboy Bebop a lot, but personally I'm more of a Space Dandy fan.

I really can't get behind Elfen Lied, though. I keep reading it's supposed to be deep, but it comes across as more pretentious to me. Granted, I've yet to watch all episodes, but it really feels like the plot and characters are only there as an excuse for violence and some awkward ecchi scenes (a problem I've had with Bastard!! as well). While there are some mature themes like dealing with traumas and sexual harassment it doesn't seem to go beyond the surface. It's almost like they're only there to score edgelord points.

I wouldn't say Elfen Lied is supposed to be "deep", per say, just tragic. There's an OVA you should check out that covers a bit more of Lucy's past.

Thanks for the recommendation. I've been thinking of trying to give the series another chance, and I guess I've watched (and enjoyed) worse stuff. At first I couldn't get into Hunter X Hunter either, but now it's one of my favorites as far as Shonen stuff's concerned.

RahXephon is better than Evangelion in every way.

The last few years of anime have been pretty mediocre.

Macross 7 is the best Macross and arguably the high point of the franchise along with Plus.

The last few episodes of Madoka were pretty poorly paced and the show suffers from it. Also the TV end sucked and felt like it was from something else completely.

I think I preferred Samurai Champloo over Cowboy Bebop because of how much more upbeat it is.

I love Goku because, well, yeah, he's a shitty person. He's not some perfect Superman clone (original Funimation dub be damned), he actually does have flaws in his.. flawlessness? But yeah, he's not exactly a superhero to begin with, he's just a kid who grew up in the middle of a forest and loves to fight. In the Japanese version it's more apparent because Goku talks like a hick.

I don't like Bleach. I watched some episodes with a bunch of other people years ago and I couldn't get into it. And no, I don't know if I was on the filler or not.

I consider Princess Mononoke to be Hayao Miyazaki's worst film. I got bored watching it in English and found it a chore to watch in Japanese. And yes, I did watch the whole film. In Japanese.
Seriously? Sure it's overrated but it's not as bad as Howl's Moving Castle or Ponyo.

A lot of anime sucks.

Miyazaki was in the right for retiring from animation. Because the rest of the anime and animation world couldn't compare to his awesomeness. He saw all the crap being made and was like, "Here, let me give you all a handicap."
