Also, not Shaman King, but One Piece, they gave Sanji a French accent because I guess only the French cook?
That was French? It sounded more like a breathless Barney the Dinosaur.

Then again, I should know better than to expect quality from a company like 4 Kids.
I will argue to the moon and back that 4KIDS shone in how they wrote dialogue. Fucking cheesy puns were their specialty (although not as completely seamless like in Bo-bobo and Samurai Pizza Cats--Digimon faltered in this sometimes), but it still felt natural.

:autism: Pokémon-wise, when you compare the TPCi dub to 4KIDS, 4KIDS did a better job particularly in terms of the script (I will stand my ground when I say the Johto seasons are a fucking goldmine for the dub) and in voice-directing. They actually gave a shit about Pokémon because it was their golden goose. It took several years for the current voice actress of Ash to get comfortable into her role, but the script can be painful to listen to because of weird dialogue, and when Tom Wayland was the ADR director, he didn't really do jack in directing the voice actors, he just had them do whatever in the booth. Also Tom Wayland was just fucking godawful as Arceus in the movie--it's really weird how much he sucked with this project because he's apparently a good voice-actor and ADR director (when he wants to be, I guess). :autism:

Also Ultimate Muscle is a treasure and needs to be preserved. It really, truly sucks it never got a full home video release, we only have the dub because a loving soul put in the effort to record it as it aired on the Kix! network (now called Pop Max, it's from the UK).

I'm +80 series in over the last year and it has become all too obvious how useless it is to follow any anime. Gintama had a segment about this but I lost the picture.

I know anime is meant to be a short version of a longer manga, or even just a taste of same, but rarely do they even feel remotely rewarding to watch. I've lost count of how many times I've sat back with a "maybe they'll make a season 3" anime, knowing I have to start investing time into a manga to figure out one tiny plotpoint. And half the time the manga isn't even that far ahead, so I can't find the answer online.

Anime is like treading water when you're out of entertainment. I see why people choose slice of life, because it doesn't have major plot points, and thus nothing to let you down on. Most recently Made in Abyss caught me, and while the manga is relatively far ahead, I know the anime is years away, and at that point the rush is gone. Or even worse, it gets cancelled and I've spent 6 hours binge-reading a manga that gets cancelled before the reveal.

Basically the only truly satisfying cases are anime not based on manga or short and/or concluded ones.

I admit, I never watched it, I avoided it like the plague until Funimation redubbed it, but that's just what I heard.

And to respond to your Pokemon sperging: I hate the current cast. The voices aren't even similar and Ash and Team Rocket sound like shit. I don't understand why they couldn't keep the original cast, they had those voices down.

Contractual reasons, and even then, Meowth would've been replaced because Maddie Blaustein died in late-2008 and who's to say if they would've asked Nathan Price to return. Only a few of the original stayed with TPCi, such as Ted Lewis, Carter Cathcart (who's James and Meowth--his worst-sounding to date still--but he's been Gary Oak from the very beginning), and Rodger Parsons, the original narrator.

Also Carter Cathcart must have quite the ego, as he's on record (under the username Old Guard Truthseeker, I exactly don't know where or how Bulbapedia got this information) saying he's the better James.

Also lolwut, I don't know what this guy means by this, but for further context, this is one of the fans (they say they're members of SOVA--Save Our Voice Actors) who still can't let go of the fact the voice actors had to change. (He posted this on Carter's Serebiiforums profile.)

I'm apparently one of the few people out there who actually liked Frontier for what it was lol. I dunno, it's a little weird. I have some memories of watching Tamers, but it didn't stick with me all too much, apparently? That's why I had to go back and do a "re"watch to make absolutely sure I had seen it, and it's a great season. But Frontier was an odd case, as that would come on in the mornings before school like right after the Tarzan TV series or something (I think it replaced Buzz Lightyear), but in hindsight, that was because of Disney acquiring the license.

But anyhoo, I really gotta do a rewatch of Frontier one of these days, but I was intrigued with the premise and how different the Digital World was (since it focused on lore that season) and the fact the DigiDestined got to become Digimon themselves, like that was so fucking awesome. And yet that got Digimon fans really butthurt, and I just don't get it at all. Why wouldn't you want to become a Digimon and kick butt? I also find the Legendary Warriors to be a better villain team than the Dark Masters in terms of characterization, if you ask me. Also lmao at Seraphimon being such a fucking pushover--seriously, when has Seraphimon ever been useful in the Digimon franchise (never played the games, can't gauge its strength there)?

Sorry for the sperging, just have some nice memories with the season.
The biggest issues a lot of people had with Frontier was the endless filler and how it turned into the Takuya and Koji show in the end. In the later episodes the other kids couldn't fight at all because they had to give their powers to the two. At least with the previous seasons where the leader and the rival are the only ones to obtain final form the rest of the team could actually contribute.

As for the thread I thought Digimon Savers was really good and got too much hate.

The 4Kids dub of One Piece was my introduction to the series, and as a result the voices are how I imagine most of the characters. And it's probably why I find some of the Funimation voices to be a bit odd.

Don't misunderstand; the 4Kids dub was an awful representation of One Piece, and most of the voice actors were straight up terrible (Sanji's nasal Brooklyn accent being one of the big offenders) it's just that I haven't been able to unhear some of those voices for better or for worse (probably for worse). Hell some of the Funimation actors are just better versions of the 4Kids version; Mike McFarland's Buggy sounds kinda like the Buggy from the 4Kids version only not so shitty.

That said, I would not have minded Mark Diraison continue being Zoro. Dude's a good VA if Berserk is anything to go by, it's just he ended up doing the crappy dub (seriously, how does the guy who voiced fucking GUTS end up doing a butchered dub of One Piece?).

I've yet to watch Berserk, but I agree. While I don't think Chris Sabat is a terrible Zoro in the slightest or even a bad voice actor at all, I hear more Piccolo than anything else (though I think this is a weird complaint because Sonny Strait is basically using his Krillin impression for Usopp and I hear (Kai) Gohan a lot in Luffy), and I think Sabat could've been better cast as someone else. I've been having this thought lately that it's like Sabat thinks he has to be in every single dub, and with One Piece being their longest project next to the Dragon Ball franchise, that guarantees he'll at least still have a job to do when all else is said and done.

90s anime version of Mamoru Chiba/Tuxedo Mask is my fave Sailor Moon character. Wished he had more screen time in later seasons, but at the same time I don't want him to go manga route.

Controversial one: I fucking hate Digimon Tamers from the bottom of my heart, it killed my interest in the franchise for many years and I think it's worse than even Xros Wars or Appli Monsters.

Conversely, I think part 3 of Tri is the best thing Digimon has ever done and the part with Patamon and Takeru where
Patamon asks Takeru to kill him if he succumbs to the infection and they both break down crying
legitimately gave me the feels.

Frontier killed Digimon for me. Tamers was so fucked up and I loved it. But if you didn't like Tamers, you'd probably hate Serial Experiments Lain, because they had the same writer/director.

Tri is the biggest disappointment to ever disappoint. I don't even remember most of it, just how useless and stupid Mei and Meicoomon are.
