With all of the dribble that comes from goodreads or most/all book review sites there should be a drinking game based on it. where while you scroll through good reads and read the descriptions, take a shot if it's any of those woke points, down the whole bottle if its all three into one unholy abomination.
Do you want me to die, mate? That's bad.
On a serious note, I remember years back there being some book on one of those "fucking amazing books our handlers paid us to promote this week" lists. It had an illegal Mexican immigrant boy with I think autism, adopted by an interracial gay couple. How on the nose can you get?

Plus, there are multiple (yes, really) YA shitfests with the premise being "kid hops around to different bodies/different alternate universes where he has to live as a different muh oppression group every time he jumps around". This includes faggotry, illegals, being a hamplanet, etc.

There's a question in my mind. Does anybody actually read this shit? I remember some YTuber shitting on libtarded authors of new Star Wars books(as far as I can remember the video was about how important is to align what you create with canon) and then I was thinking to myself: "This shit being made, but is it consumed?".
There are danger hair wokefuckers pushing their agenda into videogames, but not many of them actually play these videogames. Like we have to have 50 faggots in new games just for like less than 1% of players.

I finished reading the first three books in Dune. It's kinda meh even considering it was written decades ago. Some of the ideas presented are interesting, but it's just tiring to read. A lot of it suffers from using a page to write something that could be a paragraph. And before I say more, I knew it would be a lot of talking and not epic space battles.

The whole sci fi concept is barely present, you could had it be a fantasy story in a single fantasy world and it would probably be better for it. The world of Dune is very well realized but then everything else seems barely explained. For example, how is the empire run when it seems Paul fucks off most of the time and just moving in hugeass palace takes several hours and full of bullshit ceremony? What CHOAM anyways?

The books also suck of the Fremen and Atreides to no end on how badass they are and superior in every way to other people in morality and ability. I've heard the idea that it should be a subversion of the usual heroism in books, but for the life of me I never felt like I should have seen the two as villains, since the opposition is described as being worse their motives and competence.

Finally, there are tons of retcons between the books. The most striking one is thenature of the spice effects startsling from just making you healthier, mentally aware and connected to some sort of human shared consciousness, to awakening your genetic memory to the point it can take over your ego.

Go on, I must know more.

Books and movies are dying and are being replaced by video games.
You know, some years ago I only played video games and didn't read novels. I'd read a lot as a kid, but over the course of high school it started to dwindle and then went away most of college. But in my last year of college I had to read "Pompeii" for my Ancient and Medieval Europe class, and I loved it so much that I started reading again.

It's a shame for that to be the case, that books are dying off, because they tell much more interesting and real stories than games do. Epic gamers don't like that, but it's true. Most games are schlock cobbled together from the same cliches. Games could have more interesting storytelling than books, and sometimes do, but overall they're mostly empty spectacle.

This might be an unpopular opinion in and of itself, but books won't die to any modern form of communication. Radio today, despite "superior" methods of communication like TV or internet, remains fairly common as there are art forms that work the best with a radio-style of presentation. Books aren't like say a newspaper, which has a definitive purpose that can be satisfied the same through other means, the experience of reading a book is a different experience to vidya or TV and for certain things it is even superior. Sure, we might see an increase in say e-books and fewer print books, but they are still some form of book. The only caveat is that civilization can't go down a Fahrenheit 451-esque road where books are artificially killed off by the state, a possibility that my near-schizo mind has some concern over.

It's not dying. It becomes less mainstream. And I'm happy with that. With contemporary popularity, all we have is heaps and heaps of shit "content". Soyjaks may be buying into that but I'm not that sure - we have video games, twitch, and only fans. Why spend money when nobody sees it?
Valuable books will be written and published no matter what. We are going back to old times when reading was the entertainment of the few, who could appreciate.

I respect Stephen King for his hustle and ability to produce. Seems like every time you blink, there's a new Stephen King book on the shelf. Don't really care for his writing, though.

Also, I dunno if anyone's mentioned this before (if I have, I apologize--this thread is huge), but I wasn't a fan of "The Martian." The narrator voice reminded me of twenty thousand quirky humor fanfics.
I loved the movie. Read the book and thought it was okay. Rewatched the movie and didn't like it near as much, probably because on the third go it's not novel anymore. The narrator sounds like a teenager, doesn't feel right as an astronaut. Same goes for pretty much every other character. It's not that he's too much of a comedian, but more that it only very rarely lets up, and the specific style of joking feels out of place. I felt like the movie version of Watney is a bit too serious to capture the character but is more believable.

My MA degree was in the humanities. We had one 'non-binary' (read: attention-seeking, mentally ill dyke) who shoehorned some shit-tier novel into the curriculum that was written by a transgender 'professor' somewhere in the US.

If you're curious, it was called 'Confessions of a Fox.' What a pile of fucking shit. It is best described as a self-indulgent coom novel based upon news clippings and other written excerpts of a troon in 18th century London. Half the book was footnotes that amounted to little more than rambling autobiographical diatribes about how the staff at the author's university were transphobic (I'm really not exaggerating this fact,) along with unwanted personal sexual details and coom screeds often running several pages longer than the text itself.

Easily ranks as one of the worst pieces of shit I've ever had to read, and a perfect example of ideology overtaking merit.

I chide myself often for thinking that degree would be in any way objective and appreciative of the great works of literature in English.

I can proudly admit however that during the post-read discussion, I tore it to shreds. Let me tell you, the atmosphere in the room was like that of the courtroom during the Nuremberg trials. Whew.

I was recommended Anne McCaffrey's "The Girl Who Heard Dragons", and was severely disappointed.
One short story was set in a desert hospital planet. A guy crashes into the planet, asleep with several broken bones, and collapsed lungs. Two women nurses treat him, one mentioned, "His genitals are good to go!" The second visit, she murmurs: Oh, he's hung, quite unusual for a tall man!" Then she abruptly loses interest
It's implied that the nurses work for a decade or longer, and a head doctor is described as fucking his coworkers and jealous of the main character tending the sleeping man.

Then there's a time traveling story where Chloe wishes a complaining pregnant maid dies, nearly gets her wish (a bear scared the maid who ran up a tree and merely got scratches). And she can see into the future somehow.

Anne McCaffrey's greatest literary work is the so-called "Tent Peg Statement" in an interview.

It's not a matter of the rider *emphasis* becoming homosexual. Green and blue dragons choose people who are already homosexual. And even if circumstances arose, and a green dragon chose a heterosexual lifemate... Well, he would become homosexual. It's a proven fact that a single anal sex experience causes one to be homosexual. The hormones released by a sexual situation involving the anus being broached, are the same hormones found in large quantities in effeminate homosexual males. For example, when I was much younger I knew a young man who was for all intents and purposes, heterosexual. He was mugged, and involved in a rape situation involving a tent peg. This one event was enough to have him start on a road that eventually led to him becoming effeminate and gay.

What the shit did i just read? So is this bitch really saying that a man getting raped is what made him gay? If she claims to be lgbtdagjrfbnswdhy4ecn+ or an ally, then holeee shiet, that's a really homophobic statement for her to make.

She was born in 1926 and started writing in the 1960s. Her family was Irish-American, so I wouldn't be surprised if she was raised Catholic and with rather strange ideas about gay sex.

Holy Shit.
Another detail about Chloe: since she is from the 18th century, she's naturally racist, yet brings along a native American guy and sniffs his "native scent" since he and the rest of the crew were sleeping in a cave.
There's another story where she's God-like from all the time traveling.
