Unpopular opinions about SpongeBob -

I dunno, these are opinions I've seen a lot of, so I'm not sure how unpopular that is.

My unpopular opinion is that SpongeBob is not for us anymore, but I don't think it's good for children either in this current state its in. I'm still taking that news report of SpongeBob affecting children's IQ levels with a grain of salt, but it has gotten dumber as a show for sure. At this point, I don't think Nickelodeon/Viacom cares anymore what happens to it as long as it still sells merchandise. It could explain a lot of things.

And while I do like the older seasons, I think the episode "Shanghaied" has gotten less funny as time went by, if only because when it first aired, they had the Patchy the Pirate segments (back when the character was still great). I had happened to be spending the night at a friend's house when it aired, and I have a vague memory of it being played out almost like a game/special in teasing that it has three different endings that supposedly the viewers voted on, and only one was the correct one. So when they got to that part, Patchy the Pirate came in like a host and played them accordingly, and it was like if you picked the wrong ending on the poll, the characters got punished--but it was still darkly hilarious despite it. Unfortunately, the DVD(s) don't have those segments, so you have to manually go in to pick the endings. It kinda ruins the flow in that regard.
(Okay, well, the wiki states the season boxset does have it, but not with the voting segments, which were released on a different DVD.)

Well, while I'm a fan of the show that likes the newest seasons, I also don't think it's THAT dumb. You may be watching a lot of Season 4-7 episodes, or you are at an age where you like now new tastes (and it's perfectly understandable.
BTW, Nickelodeon doesn't give a single shit anymore abou the show. It didn't even see if "SpongeBob, You're Fired", the most heinous SB special ever, was good (it wasn't, it was a total boredom for kids, and shit for grown-ups).

Anyway, back to the topic.

I only ever liked the first 3 seasons - and even then, I still don't like this show, because there are still plenty of episodes from those first 3 seasons that suck ass as well, IMHO. I can name countless shows from Nick I'd gladly take over this yellow fucking sponge anyday of the week/month/year - but I'll stop right fucking here.

Spongebob was never good period. I only liked Texas, Just One Bite and Pre-Hibernation Week. Everything else was meh at best or pure crap at worst.

It's not for everyone though, I can agree.

What's kinda weird to me is that (last I checked) Nickelodeon only seems to show the later episodes of Spongebob and act like the older episodes don't exist. Kinda like how certain channels only show the newer episodes of The Simpsons.
