Games Shouldn't Be Art

They also don't mention what was going on with Michael between the prologue and start of the game. Mainly that he spent all that time being a complete shit head to his family. The reason his wife is cheating on him is because he cheated on her first. He also completely ignored his kids, which why they ended up being huge losers and hate his guts.

The fact that the only way you get ANY of this is through boring as fuck "dates" with his family is the reason I say the (unpopular opinion) that GTA IV and V are fucking awful when it comes to their storytelling.

If you just play the game, his family hating his guts doesn't come off nearly as deserved and I think it's the main reason normies sympathize and treat Mike as the "good guy" of the group.

Secret of Evermore is leagues better than Trials of Mana SNES.
It didn't service either game. People walked in with expectations of things that simply weren't there. Sales were poor and Square fired the whole team.

There's a lot to enjoy in SoE. It's eclectic and fun. It's got some glaring flaws, though.

People say Resident Evil 4 is a cheesy campy romp, but nobody brings up that the game still has a downright creepy atmosphere at times. The early sections in the village are pretty intense, especially if you're playing for the first time and have no idea what to expect. Yeah the game gets significantly less scary by the time you enter the castle, but even then, some of the later sections maintain a sense of dread, like the dungeon with the Novistador, getting stalked by the Verdugo, the Regenerator hallway, and the cavern with the U3.

Don't get me wrong, the game's not scary, but I don't think people give the atmosphere nearly as much credit as it deserves.

How so? I mean sure it's aged poorly in the way any game from that era has, but is there anything about it in particular that makes you say it's aged poorly?
Aside from the first episode the second episode is straight up awful while the third one has some decent levels also games movement is a bit wonky due to looking up and down ( has a weird mirror effect )

Harmonix games are pretty shitty.

Their best game was Guitar Hero 2, but then again, Guitar Hero 3 was a lot better and ironically not developed by a company that solely makes music games. The pro guitar mode in Rock Band 3 where you could supposedly learn how to play guitar for real was a total joke, while Rocksmith actually did that concept right. And their multi-track music games like Frequency and Amplitude were kinda terrible, I couldn't ever get into the flow of the song when you have to abruptly switch patterns every few measures.

They're not very good at making tough charts in Rock Band, either. Difficult charts can be fun when they're well made, but I really can't think of a good one of theirs.

I got another: Battletoads was never good.

There is this tendency to treat Battletoads as some beloved classic, when it really wasn't. It was a TMNT ripoff designed to sell toys. Now it's a Teen Titans Go! ripoff designed to sell toys. Dark Queen redesign looks like the TF2 Administrator.

Her sole existence caused hundreds of gamers to defend her at all costs to own the libs, which confirmed that sex sells. (I was going to upload a picture of her here, but Googling "Dark Queen Battletoads" brings up a lot of fart fetish porn, which further proves the point.) DQ was a marketing ploy. Her sprite didn't move when you fought her. Have you actually gone back at her art? Her cowl isn't connected to her neck. It's easily one of the most haphazard character designs in all of gaming, only remembered for her Jessica Rabbit hairstyle.

In summary: The reboot was better than I expected, though that's not a high bar. The absence of platforming was a bad move. It invited unfavorable comparisons to Streets of Rage 4.

Ham Ham Heart Break for GBA is pretty good
God, I loved that game as a kid. I don't really recall much being wrong with it unless you didn't like Hamtaro or cutesy stuff.

Anyway, Star Wars Battlefront 1 (2004) is better than 2 (2005).

The AI, while not perfect, was generally better and didn't bum rush each other like morons. They actually tried to hold and fortify their positions. The enemy AI in 2 also targets you above all other targets around them, no matter how close or far you are compared to your allies. It feels so cheap and artificial.

Maps are also generally smaller than 1's maps which I feel take away from the grand feeling the battles are supposed to give you. Doesn't help that for whatever reason, you don't have flying vehicles in the non space maps.

Speaking of, the space fights, while on paper are really cool, kinda fall flat in execution. The dev team had grand ambitions, but the limited and buggy AI kept the game mode from reaching its full potential. The AI will not utilize the drop ships to board the enemy's ship and attack their consoles and shield generator for example.

The game also emphasizes how well you do individually rather than working with your allies as a team. Which, to an extent is true in 1, in 2 s you play more and more, you unlock passive bonuses that can't be turned off and you get rewarded with bonus damage and weapons when you have a high kill streak. The only way to remove these things is to create an entirely different profile.

In general, the game feels like it was designed with multiplayer in mind, which is all fine and dandy, but barely anyone plays the game online anymore even with servers back up. 1 I feel is generally the better experience single player wise.

Some things I did like about 2 compared to one is how Hero units worked. While they are kinda broken, it is fun to get to play as one and absolutely destroy enemies and potentially turn the tide of a battle. They really do add to the whole Star Wars experience I feel. They should be a lot more rare or harder to get through. And I also like being able to play as Phase 2 Clone Troopers. The only way you can play as them in 1 is through mods, and the modding scene for 1 is not nearly as vast as 2's sadly, so there isn't as much quality content to find.

Supposedly, I heard modern Battlefront 2 improved immensely since its initial release. Can anyone confirm?
