Unpopular Opinions about Video Games -

Runescape is one of the worst games ever made, all 3 iterations of it, ironically the best iteration is the one most people hate which is RS3. I once even had the idea to make a thread detailing how autistic and unfun that game is and why everyone is insane for playing it as an adult but i don't think everyone wants to read walls of text.

t. played until i had full dragon as a kid.

Criticized by who? Tom Hulett, maybe.
There was the Gaming Brit, who thought the game was too vague to be emotionally involving.

It's not just him either, a lot of the discourse around Silent Hill seems to be that the first one's story isn't as interesting as 2 or 3, at least from what I've noticed. People tend to prefer their stories over the first game from what I've seen.

I think MMO's are the strangest games. You pay every month to do nothing but grind, get harassed by other people, and some day the whole thing will be shut down. Why so many people enjoy that is beyond me.
I knew someone who started living on World of Warcraft and saw nothing wrong with the concept of spending four hours straight just healing people and getting screamed at and berated by his guild leader the whole time for not healing fast enough

and when I asked about playing with him, he said I'd have to play as either a druid or a healer because I'd be useless and not accepted into any guild otherwise

and then he got all offended when I made fun of the need/greed system, and said I'd just click greed every time, because spending several hours straight just to help some other jackass win a super powerful weapon sounds horrible (and is fucking terrible game design)

"I HaD tO PlAy ThE gAmE tWiCe 2 sTaRt 2 GeT iT." I think the lame brain writer of Downpour said.

But I also don't find Metal Gears plot convoluted so maybe I'm just autistic.

SH1 though I love because while not super vague, it's the creepiest for not being so obvious.

SH2 I don't blame for having a great story but fuck if I'm tired of every SH game after The Room being it again but character is now an soldier, trucker or prisoner.

Edit: unpopular opinion but I really loved everything about SH4 EXCEPT the escort mission and remix of first half of game. I dug its occult story and trippy as fuck art direction a lot.

Literally who?

It's your standard double-cross. Harry is working for the bad guy. There's some ambiguity over whether Harry is dreaming or stuck in a time warp, but 3 cleared the air on that.

Aside from the retarded inventory, it's still fun to play. I got the gog version recently, and the combat isn't as bad as I remember. Imo it aged better than Honecoming and Downpour, those are literally unplayable now. There's something wholesome about Eileen and Henry's relationship, considering all the other SH protagonists are dysfunctional one way or another.
The old joke goes that adventure games didn't 'die out' so much as commit suicide.
Logic puzzles are the easiest card to play. Kind of like how Star Trek writers bitch about having to write technobabble and then fill a half hour with it, regardless. Actual writing is hard.

Ironically, GK3 has some of the best puzzles ever written:

The game is horribly misrepresented because it had a troubled development history, but it did not ruin adventure games, the genre was already struggling trying to keep itself relevant in the early 3D era. But it's still a fun mystery game with a great story and lore, and I'm really nostalgic for times when adventure games were actual games, not those glorified interactive movies.
SH2 does have bad acting, controls, and combat and video games are for nerds so that guy's doing better than most of this thread. Maybe you don't love Silent Hill as much as he does and therefore have trouble critiquing it as honestly as he.
SH2 does have bad controls and combat, but it wasn't meant to be a focal point of the franchise. Regardless, Tomm's attempts to "fix" the game ended up being a huge disaster, HD collection is still an unplayable mess everyone's encouraged to avoid. Same about the acting, you may not like it, but the HD re-dub is just painful to listen to, even the actress who played Mary admitted she was miscast.
My point is, you wanna make a SH with good combat, RE style, and Hollywood quality acting, sure go ahead, but at least deliver what you promise and make it good, and Tomm certainly failed. Sure, Homecoming and Downpour can be vaguely fun to play, but they could never compete even with RE6. But to play devil's advocate, Tomm is mis-blamed for everything that went wrong with the franchise, it's Konami's fault they hired incompetent people. I dunno how well he's doing, but he's hanging out with voidburger on twitter, so I really don't wanna be in his place...

He took the laurels, he can take the blame.

It's a solution in search of a problem. Nobody complained about the acting until Konami announced it was being re-recorded.

Everyone knows how inbred the American VA industry is. Everyone knows Troy didn't get where he is today through merit alone. He got there through back-stabbing and ass-kissing. Nobody asked for Troy and McG's involvement. Now we have to endure their big talk about how ungrateful the fans are; how Silent Hill was elevated by their golden voices.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not standing in line waiting for Guy "5G causes Covid" Cihi's autograph. But if anything, the HD version makes me appreciate the original cast more. It's a perfectly serviceable dub by today's standards.

What happens when you take a fat alcoholic with a dying show and watch him play video games where he sucks, doesn't say anything funny nor insightful, and can't be bothered to learn how to properly play?
