Log cabins are based though.
The thing about log cabins, even if you were a 19th century homesteader, is that they took a lot of WORK to build and you had to be strong. There's a very good description of Pa Ingalls building one in one of the Little House books that basically said that the foundation of the cabin had to be beaten down with a giant sledgehammer (that also broke Ma Ingalls' ankle by accident), then the logs had to be gathered, the chinking put in, and then you had to build the roof. And even then after you've built it, or while you're buidling it, you have to make sure you have a food supply, you will have to build a well at one point, you'll need to take care not to shit in your water source, etc.
It's hilarious to me that this thread got bumped because I remember the usual gang of idiots on domestic American shortwave sperging out about this until it came out that the dude was literally using his kids to steal water. Like, that is the most basic thing you need to survive. You can sleep under a lean-to, you can probably live off wild locusts and honey, but you WILL need water.
So what you're saying is, they're extra based.
According to Joe Naugler's oldest son Alex Brow, that wasn't the only use Joe had for little kids.

Edited to add something I just noticed on the facebook page - A while back Nicole had a stillbirth because she's so smart she didn't go to a doctor despite being old and overdue. They buried the baby on their feces strewn property. , an overdue stillbirth. There was a story recently about a lady who let her pregnancy go to 45 weeks because the internet told her it was a good idea and her baby died. There was also a study in Sweden about letting babies go overdue that got cancelled because there were too many stillbirths after a short amount of time and it wasn't ethical for them to continue. It's bad, bad news to be pregnant past 41 weeks because the placenta starts to break down.
I met an irl unschooling advocate--not a parent, but a formerly homeschooled person. He said that kids will learn math when they need it. He really did not see any issue with an 18 year old not knowing algebra. So what if they're 'behind'? That's just society! Who cares!
He's studying geology at a decent state school, and as far I know he's on track to graduate at 22 or 23. So it worked out for him. I was horrified. Community colleges offer incredibly low math classes, but they don't count for college credit. It could take years for them to catch up and they'll be running out their max Pell Grant/federal loan amount.
And what a lot of unschoolers respond to this is by saying yeah, well, the public schools are bad too! Lots of public school kids wind up in remedial math! This is true. I'm not denying that. But overwhelmingly those kids didn't go to the public schools that unschoolers would've gone to. Most unschool families are middle class with two white, married, college educated parents. That should be an enormous recipe for success. And it means they'll see their peers doing things on the regular schedule and graduating on time.

Btw the thread's been around for a few years, but kind of disappointing it went active. Then again, can't blame anyone for not checking in, it's infuriating to hear about parents not educating their children. Yes, the education system sucks and is run by commies, but there's ways to give your kids an education. Why were they not encouraging kids to go to the library, or watch documentaries? Why not buy math textbooks to teach math out of a home? Just how stupid/distrusting of education have people gotten over the years?

That doesn't explain how her body didn't automatically/instinctively (I dunno) pop out the mucus blockage for the amniotic fluid to flow out of the uterus. It's stupid to not get a medical check-up during pregnancy, but whatever, at its most basic, the body knows what to do during pregnancy and how to induce labor. Some babies have been overdue and still came out okay, that happens. But how the fuck can one keep a gestation period going longer than it needs to be with or without medical intervention?

Mine wanted to homeschool me and bought a bunch of textbooks on history, reading, languages, math etc.
Then my dad nixed the idea. I would have been better off homeschooled!

There was absolutely no structure. I still had chores and the like, but all my days went by playing alone in my backyard, playing vidya , watching TV (seriously, too much TV will rot your brain.) or reading. I had no internet as my mother was incredibly paranoid about the internet and computers in general thanks to online predators. The only thing I had to look forward to was my friends getting out of school in the afternoon. Life just seemed to slowly drag on, it wasn't miserable nor was it paradise.
As for leaving it, my mom passed away at 14 and I demanded to be put in public education as I wanted to pursue a career in the Air Force. I ended up graduating highschool with a 4.0 GPA. I didn't join the Air Force but I got a good job working on aircraft.
Regarding that, how bad was the catchup to get to a 4.0 GPA? Were you studying at all during your time in unschooling by your own initiative? What was your level when you when you moved to public education? Were you held back/graduate from highschool at a later age because of the unschooling/catchup required?
I had absolutely no studying of any kind. Everything I learned was of my own initiative. My reading skills excelled all of my peers as well as history knowledge. The catch-up wasn't hard for English and history, but math I had to really work hard to get a good grade. I was held back one year, when I started public school, they put me in 8th grade when I would normally be in 9th.
Math is one thing that can't be unschooled.
