I want to laugh every time giga-leftists bring up Mondragon corporation as a great example of a co-op. Their co-op works because every employee must be seriously business educated to their standards. Mondragon has very strict standards on who is allowed to work there, they don't accept idiots, everyone has to have actual skills and knowledge to even apply... it's not a flexible socialist equality festival. The typical communist would be laughed out of a job interview for that company. They are fiercely capitalist and have high standards for themselves. If you don't understand how a business works, what is profitable, and don't understand core concepts of economics or management Mondragon will essentially tell you to fuck off and come back when you embrace some capitalist values. They don't want to hire ANYBODY who's going to come in and make stupid "creative" suggestions when contributing to co-op decisions. Socialists seem to gloss over that for some reason.Wouldn't you know he did the exact same thing with coops (the spoiler is wrong, the real spoiler is "there's isn't enough data on worker coops to draw a conclusion"). There's whole one successful coop all the lefties masturbate to - and even then the "successful" part is debatable
Most co-ops in the US are small operations, run by people who are like Vaush who don't want to work too hard and love to talk about their personal theory of nothingburger. To no one here's shock, they don't work well. You typically don't get a lot done in a co-op, if ALL the people in the co-op want to have a say in everything, even if they're ignorant about that thing. That's their idea of worker's equality. Without central decision making to balance out the idiots (like you see in a normal business) decent changes never get implemented and too many people push dumb ideas that don't make money $$$$
Bitching, complaining and "deconstruction" as a management system is utter garbage lol. If your whole co-op is run on the basis of loose standards, too, and everyone is a relaxed hippie who drowns themselves in the scent of patchouli--surprise it will turn off a lot of customers. I love the concept of co-ops, don't get me wrong, but most socialists are idiots when it comes to the strict standards required for capitalism. They think of capitalism as some guy smoking a cigar in his office and exploiting people, rather than as paperwork, planning, constant innovation to beat competitors, and mathematical and social calculations.
