Sure, if Richard were to truly change (possibly saved by Jesus, but I'd take whatever) and denounce all the horrible things he's said and done, dedicate himself to helping others and good causes, to repent and atone for his sins, of which there are many, I would definitely be happy for him. I would bet that any random newfag from /fit/ with a normal meat-eating diet, not even a serious bodybuilder just someone who wants a good physique, could easily surpass Burgess in a year just doing meme routines and GOMAD if they stuck to their workout plan.
I think it's also just laziness and stupidity. If you actually hired a nutritionist, or just learned some of that shit yourself, you could probably design a diet that would be high in protein enough to put on some muscle mass, and be reasonably healthy, at least if you made an exception for B12 and various trace nutrients it's hard to get from purely vegan sources.
