Vegetarian or Vegan? - Which would you rather be?

I decided to stop eating meat, after I got so ill after eating a rib. If food makes me sick to that extent, then it's not meant to be eaten.
What would you do if you got salmonella from a tomato? Or some lettuce? Or whatever is going to cause the next outbreak?

Stop eating vegetables?

That's the thing, I didn't get sick from salmonella. I just couldnt digest it like everybody else did.

Glad I couldn't help

Vegetarian, it's less stupid.

Although to be serious, I have greatly reduced the amount of beef I eat for health reason. I'm perfectly fine going burgerless.

There's nothing bad about living the v-style (as long as you get your vitamins).

It's that holier-than-thou preaching to others that makes it suck.

Vegetarian. Definitely vegetarian.

I know a lot of really nice tasting, really satisfying, really easy, and most importantly really fucking cheap meat free recipes and mealplans that ensure I am filled up on enough protein and fat to face a day of drudgery and an evening of weightlifting with a smile on my face and a rock solid erection in my pantaloons. I would miss my homemade chicken tendies and the weekly steak and all that fish but I could theoretically live without it and still have a fantastic eating experience.

No animal products means no dairy, and thus pretty much my entire protein/fat lineup is wiped out overnight along with my comfort foods and probiotics. It also means no honey so my now milkless oatmeal is looking a hundred times shittier, and no eggs which leaves me at the point of abject suicide. My only recourse to replace them would either be things which taste like ass and are a bitch to prepare, or are stupidly exensive hipster soy shit.....which also taste like ass and are a bitch to prepare.

Cutting a whole food group out of your diet can be dangerous, unless you take steps to make sure you're getting the required vitamins and stuff from other sources.

I tried Keto for a couple weeks, so like the opposite of Veg/an? I even made sure I wasn't getting too much carbs/sugar from stuff like peppers (max half a day, eaten with plain quark) Apparently I was a bitchy mess. All I remember is drinking way too much black coffee, thinking about all the food I wanted to eat but couldn't, and not having energy for much else after tracking what food I ate and its calories and how 'much' else I could eat for the rest of the day. One day after work, I cracked open an energy drink and walked home to somehow counterbalance the calories I had drank, and then thought "this is fucking madness"

I know this isn't a particularly original take, but veganism seems legitimately unhealthy. It seems hard to get all the nutrients your body needs without eating SOME animal products.

"muh supplements"

NO. It isn't the same god dammit.

Vegetarian because it is actually possible to eat healthy on a vegetarian diet, and not look like a jaundiced AIDS carrier.

Plus, vegetarians are usually pretty easy-going about their diet. They're not insufferable, preachy faggots like vegans tend to be.

the first couple of weeks of keto are hard but your body adjusts
or you can just cut out non-processed foods and eat only good carbs in whatever quantity you prefer, same difference for most people

I'm a miserable vegan that lives on sugar and carbs.

It's a moral choice, so my body doesn't get prioritized. There's a bunch of new vegan processed foods coming out, but the older stuff was so bad it's hard to look forward to trying any of it. Anybody tried Beyond Beef yet?

If I have to choose, vegetarian because more options makes for more interesting dishes. Also lets you cover nutritional bases easier.

I've eaten surprisingly good vegan stuff before. I tend to look down on stuff like vegan meat substitutes because if you have to pretend you're still eating meat you're basically conceding defeat right out of the gate. It's perfectly possible to cook really good vegan meals without fake meats. Also, if you're going vegan because of a moral quibble with eating animal products, just stop. Things die. It happens. Things died so that field of soybeans could be planted. Etc.

Eat for health and flavor first. If those happen to coincide with morality for you, great.

Everyone dies. Everyone is not crippled, tortured and tormented in horrific ways by an industrialized killing system that is struggling to sustain the enormous burden of mindlessly breeding human beings.
Giving them money is the sole reason they continue these acts. Don't give them money, you'll force changes.

Eat for morality first. If flavor and health coincide, celebrate.

I wouldn't conflate factory farming with every other form of farming. Factory farming with all it entails is something relatively new (and admittedly terrible). I raised my own meat for years. Even after I got people to remark about how much better it tasted than the industrial-scale crap foisted off on them at every turn they still didn't consider it anything beyond a novelty and none of them ever committed to providing smaller, infinitely more humane operations with the support they needed to break out of niche status. Trying to get them to challenge their current eating habits on a moral basis would have likely resulted in rejection and backlash, because honestly no one likes a moralizer.

There are thousands and thousands of people who simply will not dedicate the thought necessary to this subject. You can get a "wow, that's horrible!" out of them one moment and the next they'll be buying the biggest package they can get of whatever rolled out of the nearest intensive animal farming operation. "But it's cheaper." "But I get more of it." "But I heard this company wasn't so bad." Moralizing dietary considerations is a waste of time beyond your own self, and it's debatable how much of a waste THAT is. Everything has a price. From the field to your table, every morsel has some blood on it. The latest darling of vegan/healthnut diets, quinoa, is a food that is basically being looted from South American native peoples that depended on it as a staple. A lot of these folks are now eating shitty diets to make up for the fact that quinoa is TOO EXPENSIVE for them to eat.

I'm telling you, if you go down the rabbithole of moral eating too far you're going to be left with pretty much nothing. It's all about where you draw the line, and using morality as a yardstick opens you up to games of "more moral than thou" and consequent manipulation.

Almond "milk" is pretty nice, though. Doesn't keep long even when refrigerated, but tastes pretty goshdarn good.

EDIT: Oh, wordfilter. You so funny.
