If you've been on YouTube long enough, you may have stumbled upon users whose names will usually end with the letters VGCP and have wondered what those four letters stand for. Well, today I am here to tell you what this community is and what they do.
Who are the VGCP?
The VGCP stands for the Video Game Cartoon Police. According to GoAnimate Wikia, they began as a group to stop the UTTP, or the UTube Troll Police, from trolling innocent users like them. Sounds nice, right? Wrong. Instead of trying to stop the trolls, they began to behave like them! And what do they do? Why, post videos about things they hate, including troll users, bad television shows, movies or video games (most of them aimed at a younger audience), and even real life situations! There are many things that these users like to do to express their hatred, and I'll introduce you to a few of these things.
Good User/Bad User Videos
This is the most common thing that members of the VGCP do. The concept of these videos are simple: take a clip from a television show, movie, video game or web series and change the title so that the user you hate is in the scenario depicted in the clip. Sometimes, they'll do these videos to express their hate for fictional characters as well.
Examples
Reaction Videos
This is what the VGCP does the second most. They are usually done in reaction to some event happening, a user's account getting banned, something happening on a TV show, or even a company selling something off! Like the above videos, they use clips from assorted media.
Examples
Free Like/Dislike Video (aka What Do You Think Of This?)
In these videos, the VGCP shows a video clip or picture and either asks the user to like/dislike the video or put their thoughts in the comments.
Examples
Rants
Another common type of video done by the VGCP. These are usually on a subject they hate, and follow a certain format. First, the person says the name of the subject they hate and gives it a derogative name that's a pun on the original name of the topic being ranted about (for example, "Screw You" rather than "Caillou" in a video on Caillou, and "Stupid Work" instead of "Homework" in a video about homework.) This is followed by the user yelling "Oh my god! This (type of thing here) sucks!" They then go on to explain why they hate it. If it's a TV show, especially one aimed at younger kids, expect to hear the term "failure adventures" a lot. After the reasons why they hate it are explained, they tell the viewer who they think would like and hate the subject they're ranting on. Once that's finished, they say "So screw (main subject), and screw (another thing they hate)! (Thing they like) is (ridiculous number) times better than (main subject!) End of rant." These are usually done in GoAnimate, but others are done on plain black screens.
Examples
No (BAD SHOW!) Let's Watch (GOOD SHOW!)
This video will show a clip of the show or movie the user hates, followed by a video of static that cuts to to a clip from a show or movie the user likes. This does nothing but express how much the user hates a particular TV show or movie.
Prank VHS/DVD Openings
To troll users who love a subject they hate, they will pretend a different video is the opening to a VHS or DVD related to it, often by slapping an image of the VHS or DVD cover to fool people.
How do I spot them?
The first, and most obvious way to find them, is if they have VGCP at the end of their YouTube username. However, members who participate in VGCP activity may not have those letters in their name. A common name format for users who don't is usually (ThingThatILike)Yes (ThingThatIHate)No. Also, a lot of people who post these videos have their birth year in their username. Other times, you won't know if someone's in the VGCP until you check out their videos. If they have two or more of the above, chances are that they are a fan or member of the VGCP.
And that concludes my introduction on this crazy community. This thread's purpose is to document their ongoing activities, so feel free to post anything that you see done by them!
