video game movies - or movies based on videos games

  • Intermittent Denial of Service attack is causing downtime. Looks like a kiddie 5 min rental. Looking into some solutions.

what's your opinion of movies based on popular video games? most usually suck, but they're probably still okay if you dont view them as video game movies.

personally, i did like warcraft. that's the best video game movie i've seen, but it probably wouldve been better as a tv show, like castlevania. also the old tomb raider movies and the resident evil movies are decent "turn your brain off and enjoy the action" movies for the most part

My favorite movie based off a game was Battleship. Wasn't exactly like the game but at least they still implemented the action packed into the game.

I like the Warcraft movie, too. I think critics were too hard on it. Yeah, it wasn't great, but it wasn't all that bad either.

The CG animated Resident Evil movies are a guilty pleasure of mine; I find them to be a so bad/campy it's fun sort of deal.

Street Fighter and the first Mortal Kombat are both a lot of fun. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li are bad. Any video game movie directed by Uwe Boll is terrible.

I kinda felt the Ratchet and Clank movie was okay. I mean, most of the side characters were kinda bland and one note, and really the plot is nothing special, but I felt kinda giddy seeing and hearing Ratchet, Clank, Quark, and Nefarious on the big screen. It was kinda like a childhood dream come true. If they didn't bring back the old cast for those characters, then frankly I would have written the movie off as trash.

Not bringing back Kevin Michael Richardson for Drek was a bit disappointing for me though.

I enjoy the first Steet Fighter movie for what it is. A campy dumb action flick. That Raul Julie was awesome in his role as M. Bison is also a treat. I also enjoy the Asscreed film and the Warcraft film. They are not bad flicks. They have issues (asscreed spend too much time in modern time, the guy from Warcraft was dull as shit etc) but enjoyable over all.
I saw the first CGI Resident Evil film today and that one was dumb. Really really dumb. Some nice action here and there but dumb as shit. As all resident evil storyline is (Umbrella must be among the worst companies in fiction) stupid and convulted as all hell, it didn't bother me that much.

fun fact:he was replaced by Paul Giamatti at last minute and his paycheck was sent to him by mistake. He could tell it wasn't for him because the value was much bigger(i.e: he's not a celebrity) than he usually receives...

The Hitman movies actually aren't terrible, they're nothing like the games but they're perfectly serviceable action films.

They're pretty much all dog shit. But I have a weird nostalgic connection to the Mario Bros. movie. I don't think it's good by any means but it's fairly "so bad it's good" and it's certainly a fascinating failure.

The Rifftrax is a must.

There's only two that I can think of that are actually good. The Silent Hill movie which I think is a very good horror film that's mostly accurate to the games. And then there's the Ace Attorney movie directed by fucking Takashi Miike.

Which reminds me that I need to watch his Blade of the Immortal adaptation.

There's something special about the shitshow of the Super Mario brothers movie that just makes it utterly watchable regardless

It's a time capsule movie.

Trivia: co-director Rocky Morton defends the movie for being so different from the games by insisting that it's the other way around. The games are based on the movie like the movie actually happened. According to him anyway. You would never get that impression in a million years but -to be fair- the post-credit scene kind of sort of hints at this.

Postal was pretty much the most faithful game to movie adaptation ever though. Not that it's a good movie by any means, just very, very faithful to the source material.

Also you get to see Dave Foley's dick in it.

I try to avoid them because they're usually utter shit.

However, I must admit I was almost excited when I saw this, which I could tell was an obvious joke, but still.

Like somebody said earlier though, if Zelda were ever made into some kind of feature thing, it should be a miniseries.

And yes, I remember that cartoon show.
