Video game remakes and demakes - Remakes, demake shitmakes.

RE3R is definitely a DEmake and I'm tired of RE Engine fanboys defending that shit. RE2R had problems but it brought back something the newer games were missing: the horror where a single enemy feels like a threat, strategic approach to boss fights, puzzles and scarce ammo. RE3R threw it all away for the sake of rehashing 4/5/6 formula again. It's not only a bad remake but just a mediocre RE game and a step down from what RE2R did right. And they had audacity to lie it wasn't rushed when they removed locations, downgraded Nemesis, barely marketed it and slapped that crappy multiplayer on top to compensate. Original aged extremely well despite tank controls and still plays fantastically. I have zero hopes CV will ever be done justice, considering Crapcom cares about it even less, but it's probably for the best. I'm sick of theses remakes already.
Oh and I hate new Jill. Sorry for bringing this up again but you have no idea how toxic her simp-y "YOU JUST HATE REAL WAMMENN" fanboys are. It's funny because I actually liked new Claire and defended the actress, despite her being a feminist.
Uh, are you seriously pretending here that the original RE2 and 3 didn't supply you with a shit ton of ammo, and that the actual zombies weren't pathetically easy to kill? I agree that RE3R was disappointing but it's not because it dispensed with the horror, it's because it cut so much content it made a short game into an even shorter game. Outside of Nemesis, the original 3 was an action romp for the most part.

I'm not complaining about the action or too much ammo. The classic RE weren't just about the action, there were also things like puzzles, inventory limit, exploration with backtracking... Obviously, since the modern gamers hate these things they had to be scrapped in favor of linear rail shooters where combat is the ONLY challenge, but I digress.
I do not agree with OG RE3 being too short, it's about as long as one scenario in RE2 but it had branching narratives and endings to compensate. Out of all the classics it has the most replay value. Dodging mechanic was something you had to master instead of pressing one button, and Nemesis didn't go down from a single grenade. Even with plenty of ammo he was much harder to deal with because of the controls and camera angles. R3make modernize things but the challenge is completely gone now and his AI is somehow more retarded than Mr X's. Birkin in the OG was effing slow and easy but there was something terrifying with how he could easily dominate the space and ambush you. He was still cool and in the remake they made him faster and the boss fights more dynamic, yet they didn't do anything new or interesting like that with the Nemesis.
The question was about the remakes that are objectively worse than the originals and it absolutely is in every way. If I wanted to blast zombies heads, I'd replay 5, which was at least entertaining and self-contained.

So a rumor went around that resident evil village was going to be a remake of 4 before it turned out vill is the 8 pulling the old resident evll trick with the font from 7. But does 4 really need a remake? Out the next gen trilogy from 4-6 it's often consided the best. Mixing the old games horror and survival with the newer ones action and intensity.

(Also sorry if this should go in the resident evil thread proper)

the rumor that it's gonna incorporate 3.5 horror elements with metroidvania style exploration sounds too good to be true... Not a huge fan of 4, but it aged like a fine wine and the tank controls add to the challenge.
I guess 4 remake would be easier to market than something like CV. They like money, after all.

Yep. Only made the two games, but what a strange and wonderful legacy.

Do we have any developers these days who could create two games that creative and weird and different from each other? I doubt it.
DICE with pinball, pivoting to racing and rally games then doing a horse training mystery game for young girls, Shrek, Battlefield for young boys and Mirror's Edge for no one. They're now cursed to be the Battlefield studio but for years they were a racing game studio, even after the success of BF1942 they continued plying that trade with Midtown Madness 3 and Rallisport 2.

I'd appreciate a RE4 remake so long it gets rid of tank controls. I managed to struggle with the controls for couple hours and chapters but with 0 enjoyment. First tank controls game I ever tried, and will be the last.
Other than that, they can even leave the old graphics in, I'd buy it.

Why do people beg Capcom for a Resident Evil 4 remake, only to demand that absolutely nothing be changed at all besides the graphics? That’s so stupid, you’re just paying for the exact same game but it requires better hardware and it’s 60 dollars.

I would love a remake of No One Lives Forever, even though the original still plays great.

But we all know they would completely and thoroughly botch it.

Did not know they remade XIII. Wish I still didn't.
Here's some potential news on that front. Same guys who are currently working on the System Shock remake wanna bring it back, but the rights are scattered to hell and back, from what it looks like.

NOLF and NOLF2 are on my backlog of games to play, funnily enough. Heard they're real good FPSes.
The reason, I think, video game remakes won’t sell well these days is because just like how everything is needed to be made into a sequel, the remakes of original games that are not familiar with today’s youth won’t be given the time of day.
Nice try, Sega representative!

I'm hoping for the best with the Bloodborne demake, it looks fun as fuck. Plus he made a video of bloodborne kart racing.

That's what made me lose interest when Blue Point was rumored to be doing the MGS remake. Not sure if that was confirmed/debunked but looking at what they did with Shadows of the Colossus and Demon Souls they looked very pretty but everything else was pretty much the same. Now maybe for a PS1 game they would do more to modernize the gameplay but if it's just MGS with a new coat of paint slapped on top and very little if any other improvements i'm not interested.

Here's an example of a remake + translation that's annoying by virtue of how it was released:

There was a graphic novel in Japan by the name of Kamatachi no Yuro for the SNES, notable for being one of Chunsoft's first, being featured on GameCenter CX, and having a name that comes off very goofy in translation: "Night of the Sickle Weasel". Its been released on a ton of different platforms over the years, and eventually, got an English translation by the much better name of "Banshee's Last Cry":

Not sure about the actual dev teams, but the company that developed Lemmings, Uniracers, and Space Station Silicon Valley (DMA Design) would go on to become Rockstar North.
SSF2T wasn't a remake, tho. It was the GOTY version with all the DLC.
It has remakes though, including ones with even more extra shit.
